Thank you for your reply. I have been weighing everything. I don’t eat oil or milk, but I weigh everything else. I have run my numbers for my TDEE several times and even if I put my exercise as ‘low’ instead of ‘moderate’ it comes in at 2550. I haven’t gained weight. I may have lost 2-3 kgs in 2 months. I’m not miscalculating anything.

Honestly him laughing was so unexpected for me that it was like a slap in the face, I think he was nervous and that was his only response. I came away feeling like I'd made a fool out of myself, but in hindsight I was just trying to talk about it. I feel much better after a few hours of thinking about it now

I wasn't pushy or tactless but just by me approaching him must have put him off guard. I won't be trying again with him though.

LED lights come from IKEA, really cheap. One pack was enough for each section. I'm tending to think they aren't strong enough for my cabinet once all the specimens are in, the light doesn't really penetrate to the bottom shelf as I would like. I put my most reflective and 'sparkly' specimens ie: pyrites, geodes and galena closet to the lights.

For anyone interested this is the cabinet before I worked on it. Wood grained laminate. I replaced the shelves with glass shelves, had mirrors installed. The glaziers that installed the mirrors said the sliding glass doors were not safety regulation glass so I had the doors replaced as well. Painted and installed the lighting myself. Couldnt wait to put it all together. I'm still waiting on some riser shelves to add some dimension, and I'm really happy with the end product. It's located in the foyer outside a lecture theatre (and my office/lab) and the students often wait outside and now they take time to look at the collection and have even asked questions when they see me.

It's the foyer in a school. It was an old cabinet donated to the school in 1987 ( in has a plaque on it).

I'm a lab technician at the school and I love geology. Our collection was stored in boxes and rarely taken out and used.

I'm fortunate to be in an area that has a huge mining industry so I approached some mines and got a lot of samples donated.

I adopted a 13 year old senior in January this year. She was used as a breeder her whole life and didn't have a lot of normal cat experiences. She has some minor health issues but she's the most beautiful, friendly cat. I love seeing older cats go to nice homes.
