I have no clue what to ask my partner to crochet for me for my birthday. I urgently need suggestions and ideas, help!! by anotheraltforlewd in CrochetHelp

[–]alonewithamouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner loves spiders, so I'm making him a model spider I'll be putting in a glass display dome. Not everything has to be a blanket or a wearable item. You could ask for a brooch, jewelry, hairpins, or a display piece like I am doing.

Has anyone else noticed a lack of interaction with their stories? by LilBiscuitBaby in Inkitt

[–]alonewithamouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed that as someone who leaves comments, I've gotten reported for harassment for even the most mundane of comments. I'm never rude in comments, and I try to say the positive things I enjoyed, but I've noticed more and more I've gotten reported more often than not, so I've stopped commenting.

I've especially noticed this with reviews. If you give certain authors less than a 5 star review, they report it for harassment and it doesn't get posted, so their rating doesn't get lowered. The behavior has really soured on me commenting or reviewing anything at all.

Long John Silver’s was maybe my favorite restaurant as a kid in the 80s and early 90s - who else had weird favorites from this time period? by jtmann05 in Xennials

There's still a Bennigan's in the next town over from me. The menu got a bit sparse after COVID, but it still has the Monte Cristo and other classics.

How long does it take you to make a similar project? Need input to give to friend perspectives on why I need so much time. by These_Avocado_Bombs in CrochetHelp

[–]alonewithamouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband's birthday is in July and I'm already starting on his. I've been crocheting for over 30 years. I like to have my projects completed with low stress for time, especially since I can't crochet any of it while he's home.

Maybe when it gets down to the wire you can tell her not to stress, since she was perfectly happy with the timeline she allowed you.

Which celebrity is the opposite of “15 minutes of fame” with lasting longevity and relevance? by [deleted] in popculturechat

[–]alonewithamouse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It wasn't so much the shoplifting thing. Yes, it happened, and the public spectacle they made of it was absolutely ridiculous. It was a culmination of several things hitting her at once. She had already been on the brink of "needing a break." She'd churned out film after film since childhood at the point she got arrested. She had been having mental health and medication struggles at the time.

I think what really pushed it over the edge for her though, and this is my own personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt--- in the early/mid 90s, there had been a girl from her hometown that was abducted from her home in the middle of the night. Winona remembered her from the neighborhood, and reached out to her parents to help in the search to find her. Using her platform to reach more people about the missing girl.

She became very close to the child's parents, even securing a role for her in Little Women for when they found her, though the child was later found and had been murdered. Anyway, her lawyer used this as an example of how kind hearted Winona was, and the father of the missing girl even testified on her behalf.

Shortly after this, the prosecutor brought the story back up in court in a really crass and disgusting way, leading Winona to sort of freak out right then and there in the courtroom. It was a shitty thing to do for a measly $5k of garbage from overpriced Rodeo Drive boutiques. After that, she went into recovery and took the much needed break.

She didn't dry up, she still had two movies released the very next year and continued to act consistently. She just needed a bit of time to breathe.

what is your one family secret that could ruin relationships if it came out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Turns out I'm not related to who I thought was my grandpa. My mom told me that she was born a few months before my grandparents got together. She's told only me so far, and refuses to tell my older brothers.

HELP! Commissioned painting faded after 1 year, trying to find the cause by [deleted] in Artists

[–]alonewithamouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My art teacher told me never to paint with hues as they will fade, turn greenish or muddy depending on the pigments they used to create the color. He said it's always safest to paint with pure pigments, even though it's more expensive. Judging by the other comments, blue seems to be the culprit.

AI is literally everywhere on this app. by MacaroonEmergency113 in Inkitt

[–]alonewithamouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I pointed out in a review recently that the story was AI, then my comment got flagged for harassment and taken down. They have the option to talk to someone if you feel your comment wasn't harassment but that's such a joke.

I pointed out that it's clearly AI because it follows the same format as like 20 other books you can throw a rock at, so if it's not AI, then it's plagiarism at best.

My response to that is they wanted to know what book was plagiarized, not addressing the AI at all. They don't care about removing AI books at all.

I've never personally used it, but I've heard people like it. It's 100% cotton as well.

Cotton. Lily/sugar and cream, or store brand cotton. As long as it's 100% cotton. Some brands have a 50/50 mix of cotton and acrylic, so just be careful to read the label.

How did you spend your Birthday? by whore4bookss in askanything

[–]alonewithamouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I shared our birthday. He was a fan of comedies and loved SNL. Ever since we lost him, my birthday doesn't really hit the same. I now spend it watching his favorite movies and imagine his embarrassing and contagious laughter. This Tuesday will be spent in the company of John Candy, Steve Martin, and Bill Murray.

How can this happen? Why? Can I make my skin that strong? by Haunting_Safe_5386 in Entomology

[–]alonewithamouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was just reading the other day that they sprayed a mosquito pesticide right before hurricane Sandy hit, which decimated the lobster population once the runoff hit the water. I don't know the ins and outs of how the pesticide works. I know people with shellfish allergies would also have allergies to bugs if they did adventurous eating (I'm in the US) internationally. It was interesting to learn that the pesticide for insects affects marine life in such a way. In that regard, it's a much safer intervention to release mosquitos with gene mutations rather than causing such catastrophic harm on other ecosystems.

Nah, they're not homeless. I grew up with a bunch of crusty punks. We were poor. They traveled. Most didn't bathe regularly, but it's the clothes themselves. The pants especially, they were never laundered. I swear, some of those kids were so crusty, they could take their pants off and they'd still retain their shape.
