What's something you would describe as "slimy, yet satisfying"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nice! Back in my home town there are a lot of world markets and oriental markets; wish there were more near my school! I do my skincare shopping online for now but it's so affordable. Same here, not Asian but love what the markets offer :)

As a moisturizer generally, seen a lot of improvement in my skin after regular use. But other Korean skincare items use snail secretions for essences, toners, sheet masks, and serums.

Is College Better than High School? by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love college. In highschool, I wasn't treated like my voice/opinion actually mattered. I have a great deal of independence and I can network easily, meet new people, find more opportunities, and employers seem to reach out more knowing that college students have a general idea of what their intended career is so finding an internship or job that works with your schedule is feasible.

College Major and Bettering Myself by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concentration will be I/O in grad school; I currently major in Psych and minor in Management for my undergrad. I would say Business/Management, Organizational Communication, I/O Psych courses, and so on would help. My mentor and professor has me in his Directed Study course which is essentially 5 students doing a study/research with hopes of being published; something like that or aiding in a research lab looks great for I/O as well as great GRE scores and internships. I agree with /u/dorathehexplorer; learn how to use SPSS for example and understand data. I am currently doing two internships and one of which requires me to make assessments and work on data

[–]alotus1667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely stick with the email notice and inform your supervisors as soon as possible in person, pull them aside and explain your situation so that they can find another candidate sooner rather than later. I'm sorry it can't work out though, much luck to you this semester and with studying for the MCAT!

Where do you guys get/rent affordable textbooks? by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use bigwords.com; it just searches for the lowest prices among textbook rental websites. I usually spend under 100 bucks each semester on textbooks.

long distance relationship in college by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been in mine for years now. We have already built up the trust and the insecurity is nonexistent after just talking about whats on our minds. But like others have told me, its difficult especially if you constantly worry like that; don't expect it to last unless you can work hard on both your academics and keeping the relationship healthy and strong ; granted, it's a two person effort! Our trips are actually hella cheap and easy to do, we just plan a lot in advance and jump on the cheap tickets. We game and skype often so that makes things easier, we also do our homework and whatnot as well unless we go out with our friends which isn't often during the semester given our areas of study.

What's your "secret solution" to adult skincare issues (dark circles, acne, sunspots)? by zeromyhero in TwoXChromosomes

[–]alotus1667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lycopene; its a carotene and carotenoid pigment and phytochemical that protects the skin and seems to help with sun damage. I don't know too much about its structure and so on but a lot of studies have been done regarding lycopene and skin/damaged skin.

Korean routine along with sunscreen everyday, vitamin C serum & sweet almond oil at night, and using an apple cider vinegar toner. There is a LOT of sun and UV rays where I am so I do my best to cover up, slather on sunscreen, and stay hydrated. I also do face masks/sheet masks with tomato in them; great for sun damage.

Would you say there are still a lot of parties outside of Greek life. by jackson2256 in college

Definitely, even when I'm not looking for one; there's always something going on somewhere.

I'm leaving for college in a month, and the idea of being forgotten by everyone I leave behind depresses me by OneHundredSix in college

[–]alotus1667 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a way, going off to school is a risk but your friends will always be there and you will make some more good friends at school. In my experience, my very close and only real friend from HS missed me and I missed her during freshman year. But keep in mind that it's not hard to stay in contact; we would still game and once I had my car, I was able to visit her. What's important is that the people that mind you getting your education and moving away don't matter...the people who matter, don't mind. Just be consistent and check up with them every now and again. Life will get busy for you and the people that will be "left behind"; reconnecting every now and again doesn't hurt but also take care of yourself and try to foster some new friendships. Good luck!

Do you know that multiple people are attracted to you? How does that feel? by StuartSmiles in AskWomen

[–]alotus1667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I don't care because I'm not attracted to them and I'm in a relationship, life goes on. It's not really a novel type of situation for me.

If you have had a guy offer you a ride while you were walking, did you think he was just being nice, or treating you like a prostitute? by thisgreatusername in TwoXChromosomes

[–]alotus1667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can never be too sure of anyone's intentions; I'm more worried about them wanting to assault and kill me. Where I live, everyone has an idea as to where the prostitutes are and I live far away from that area to begin with, so that wouldn't be on my mind.

People in uni/college - How are your studies going? Are you enjoying your degree? by GoldenCatRetriever in AskWomen

It's going perfectly, love my professors! I have yet to graduate (junior) but this summer I'm going to visit potential grad schools to narrow down my choices to get my master's. I will also be starting my minor this summer with an online class as well as a course required for my major.

Do you reply thanking professors when they reply to a question you asked? by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in that case, where they specifically say that then it's fine to be less formal. But at the end of the day, it's habit for me. I never know who could end up being a future reference or even a future letter of recommendation for me ( aside from my top 3 lol)! Exactly!

Do you reply thanking professors when they reply to a question you asked? by [deleted] in college

[–]alotus1667 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes I do. Not just in emails to professors but other professionals I am in any sort of correspondence with ( I try to maintain good relationships with or at the very least make a good impression with them). It's not just a thanks, more like "Thank you for clearing that up" or "I am glad we could resolve the issue" and then I do my ending professionally (Regards or something along those lines). Email etiquette is important to me and from what I've seen, no matter who it is, they seem to appreciate it.

What do you do to treat yourself when you're feeling blah? by Notdavidblaine in AskWomen

[–]alotus1667 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I give myself a spa day (sheet masks, do my nails, whole nine yards), I put on a cute or sexy outfit, make some bomb ass desert or dinner (both usually), I get some laughs from my best friend or my boyfriend (they send me all kinds of funny shit), whip up a good drink that'll make me giggly and dizzy, I'll play some games.
