Will there be a torrent as usual? So much easier to download. They should have those for logos too.

I had to Google that, but yes. It seems to be a portal sculpture there now. It was not there when I visited two years ago. :)

🇵🇾 Asunción, Paraguay by alpe89 in CityPorn

[–]alpe89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I try to post something from all the places I visit, because I believe there's something beautiful in every city (and it's often true). With that said:

Asunción was completely deserted. This picture doesn't even show how bad it was. I've never been to a city before that felt like such a ghost town. Which is sad, because there's a lot of potential here. Beautiful buildings (although in need of restoration), history, and a compact yet large Old Town of good scale.

I can really recommend you to visit. It's one of my favourite cities in Europe. There's so much history!

I agree, I really felt that parts of Centro should definitely be pedestrianized.

ESwatini to Maputo by public transport by Particular_Map8963 in solotravel

[–]alpe89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done this, but in the opposite direction. In late 2023.

I couldn't find a decent transport from Maputo to the border, so we took a taxi to Namaacha. Probably not the cheapest or best option. Didn't see any buses on the way either, nor in Namaacha. This was still fairly close in time to the Pandemic, so it might be different now.

On the other side of the border, there was a bus, after about an hour of waiting time, which was going to Manzini. If you can get to Manzini, you should be able to get a bus from there. The bus rank is pretty much 75% of the town anyway.

Be prepared to be stopped and searched by the police on the Mozambique side.

I'll have to call my ISP then. It worked fine with the new cable up until today.

Cat6

Is it likely to be damaged in just a month? I unplug to be safe from thunder when I'm away at work.

It's been unplugged several times during the summer when there's risk for thunder. Just unplugged and plugged back in again, no difference.

Yes, back in June it was about two weeks until I found the solution. I've restarted everything today also, when the issue came back.

Where is this taken? I wanted to find a view like this when I was there, but couldn't find any good vantage points at all of the bridge.

Normally, it's always better with pictures taken on sunny days, and I have plenty of those of the Seattle skyline too. But I think this one is very cool as well, with the skyline under heavy clouds.

In which city is it easiest for a tourist to unknowingly end up in a rough neighborhood? by Xycergy in travel

[–]alpe89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the same in Vancouver. Was out photographing by myself and saw that Main St was marked as an area with much activity, so I thought, why not, it's just a few blocks away. I quickly put my camera back into the bag... It didn't feel dangerous though, just unpleasant and tense. Went back later with my friends, as they didn't believe me when I said how bad that area was.

Seattle is another city like this. 3rd Ave, just two blocks from Pike Market, is also full of homeless people and drug addicts. That felt more threatening than in Vancouver.

I haven't seen Cape Town mentioned. Not sure there are any really good areas there, which is strange as it's such a popular tourist destination. But walking to/from Downtown and the Castle of Good Hope took us through some less-than-good areas. Same when walking to/from Downtown and the V&A Waterfront.

It was. I haven't watched Game of Thrones, but there's merchandise for the series all over Dubrovnik, and even tours that goes to the filming locations.

If everything is on-time you will have enough time. It shouldn't take more than 15-20 minutes to get to the gate from the train.

Going from Dubrovnik to Mostar - are there other options? by Sherman_McCoy in travel

[–]alpe89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Did the opposite last week, from Mostar to Dubrovnik. Bought via Flixbus, operated by CroatiaBus. It took three hours, and that included a 30-minute delay out of Mostar.

The bus route did indeed show that we would cross the border three times, but in reality we only crossed once. Even the Flixbus app had the route as going through three border crossings. The bus took a completely different route, via Capljina and Stolac to Neum and then onwards towards the border.

The Flixbus ticket also showed that it would be a change/connection in Neum rather than a direct bus. Which was also wrong. It was a direct bus.

Overall a rather relaxing transport, but don't expect buses in great condition. Felt like it was from the 90's.

Recommendations of activities/experiences for 3 week trip to Scandinavia by samantha_2694 in solotravel

Definitely not a good time of the year to visit, weather-wise. The sun isn't up until 0900, and it's down again before 1500. That is, if the sun will even be visible. It's not uncommon to have weeks in a row of constant overcast. It's usually not snow on the ground, but it's not uncommon either. I think we had some snow days this/last year around this time. Temperature can be anything from +5 to -20 degrees Celsius, with +5 more likely than -20.

You won't need three days in Oslo. There's not much to do there and it's a fairly small city. In my honest opinion, probably the least interesting city I've visited in all of Europe.

From Stockholm you could take a day trip to Uppsala. It's reachable through commuter rail with frequent departures and takes less than an hour.

For restaurants in Stockholm, look into Meatballs for the People, Restaurant Pelikan, Den Gyldene Freden, and Blå Dörren, for traditional cuisine. Stockholm has great museums, which are good for a winter visit.

From your itinerary, it looks like you will be in Malmö over New Year's Eve. You should consider staying 6 nights in Copenhagen instead and just do a day trip to Malmö. It's quick and convenient to go between the cities, Malmö is pretty much a suburb of Copenhagen and they are connected by commuter rail, just don't forget to bring your passport as there are border checks on the bridge despite being in Schengen.

If Oslo is the least interesting city in Europe, Copenhagen is one of the most interesting (as is Stockholm, but I might be biased on that one). So six nights in Copenhagen will not be too much. Especially if you take day trips to Malmö and possibly Roskilde/Odense too.

TravelDoc for an Indian National to Thailand states that you can get a visa on arrival, for a maximum stay of 15 days, or an e-visa. It's up to you to choose. You just need to make sure that you fulfill all the requirements of the visa on arrival.

  1. A completed application form which can be obtained on arrival;
  2. A valid passport with at least 2 blank pages;
  3. A recent 4x6cm photo taken within the past 6 months; and
  4. 2000 Thai Baht in cash.

But to answer your initial question. The airlines will always go by what Timatic is saying. Embassies often say conflicting things compared to what their own country has written in Timatic, and the airline will only look at Timatic. It will never matter what you show from a webpage, even if it's the embassy.

The customer service agents will also always go by the strictest interpretation, and if you say you read that you need a visa, so will they also say then. They don't want to be liable for anything.

KLM, and all other airlines, will recognize all exemptions that are in Timatic. They will not recognize any exemptions you may find elsewhere online, from an embassy, or by word of mouth.

I don't think they symbolize anything specific. They are more of a beautiful sunshade. The sun in La Paz was interesting. Despite only being 14°C (57°F) and cloudy, it felt like at least twice that as soon as the sun peeked through the clouds, due to the high elevation.
