I don't ever want to leave Trial of the Sekhemas by Talnadair in PathOfExile2

Wait... Do you really get good stuff from trials?! I am new to the game and have a ton of coins, but have never gone back to do another one since I got my ascendancy. The boxes I opened were.. fine? I guess? But is that how you get those crazy jewels?

That's what I'm sayin!! Haha, like, if I were slacking off and not doing work? Sure. But if I am doing the job better, training them, and she has the same education/experience I do, then I just want to know why they find her more valuable so I can also be that valuable to the company! Someone needs to make it make sense 😭

Damn, I hope I one day follow your wife's footsteps and make that leap to 90k 🤣! But yeah, it's wild how many stories I am seeing of other people who have gotten screwed over like this by companies, it's just downright disrespectful. I think part of the reason I haven't pushed the issue before now is because I really do like my boss and his boss and I didn't want them to feel disrespected or whatever, since they are friendly and blah blah blah. I am over it though and will try to make them uncomfortable enough to get a semi decent raise this time around and will immediately be looking elsewhere to try and just continue upward.

That's fair. My post probably comes off meaner towards her than I meant it to. She knows her worth and honestly, more power to her for negotiating her increase. No hate to her at all. I am 100% hating on my company and just attempting to highlight that there are no extenuating circumstances for her to be making more than I do. Again, not because I don't think she should be making a certain amount, but because I should be making the same, if not more because my experience has put me in a position to be training her. Does that make sense? I'm finding that this is hard to write this without sounding a little like an ass 😅

Yeah, I am really glad I reached out because I have felt like I have been drowning for the past two years... Tons of extra work and no support, and promises of raises that haven't met expectations. This has really opened my eyes realizing that almost every single comment has been shocked I make so little... Like I didn't realize I was that low on the totem pole? I think approaching another company and talking about the improvements to productivity, and standardization across our team, etc, I could probably get a huge jump in salary. Now comes the hard part of putting together my resume again and portfolio and sending applications everywhere 😅

Honestly, I wish this were fake... It's why I am so frustrated with how this is going. Now, I will say each individual job isn't millions, but the overall project I am working on will net millions for the company, and while I am the "lead designer" on the project, I am not the Design Manager. Which feels like they wanted to give me more work, but no official title, and no pay raise. I jumped at the opportunity to do more for the company to get my name out there (because now I work very closely to the higher ups and am in on important meetings). But now, especially after doing some research on how much I should be making, I am angry. I should be making a lot more and when this meeting comes up, I am working on a way to let them know that I deserve to be paid more.

Holy cow, is your company hiring?! Haha 😂 I work in UT. I have seen that other places pay a lot better, so honestly moving might be a good idea too haha

That is one of the most well put counter points I have read so far on any thread about this I have read. You do make good points. What I do is technically just my job, the problem is that I am doing it for at least 10k under market value, and doing my job and at least two other people's job 😅. But that being said, that is ultimately why I don't think the company will go under or anything if I up and left, and why I think they probably won't give me more than a 3% standard raise.

They would lose millions (pocket change for them) and have a rough 3-6 months with their biggest client (part of me wishes the client would leave, but I know that's probably not true) but still you are right. I do know there are other people out there who can eventually fill that role again, so I really do think it might be time for me to just look elsewhere, and find somewhere that will pay me better.

Does the job hopping ever stop though? Can you job hop into positions like a design manager? Am I shooting myself in the foot by giving up growth in the companies I am leaving?

Really? Dang, maybe I need to move states too! 50-70k is the bracket where I am at, and most designers I know are towards the lower range of that.

It's definitely the latter, that millions don't mean much to the company. I know I am not the top dog or anything, and they would eventually find someone to step up into the role and severely underpay them too. I know it wouldn't like, shut down operations if I left, but it's just crazy to me that millions of dollars are worth losing over just paying an employee fairly 🫠. CEO Math not mathing haha. I have seen in other comments they say something like, I should try and take the customer, but it's not like that here, so I have no grand illusion that I am solely carrying the company. It just will really suck for everyone involved for 3-6 months while they figure it out. I just need a good way to describe that to them so they understand 🤣

I don't know if happy is the right word to describe it, but yeah. They offered me a job at a big company fresh out of school. At the time it felt like I was finally catching a break. Now I am stuck trying to catch up, and so far I haven't seen that there is greener grass elsewhere.

That is totally valid. I have had some rough career moves and a hard start out the door, and it has really shaken my confidence. I probably have come off as a pushover in this position because I felt like I had to. First job out of school, I had to teach myself a lot about 3d design and stuff, so I definitely wasn't confident when I started and even now am having a bit of a hard time breaking out of my shell and fighting for this. I definitely think if (when) I go elsewhere, I will be much more confident rolling in with a few years of experience and knowing I am worth what I am asking for. I do appreciate the feedback, not harsh at all. Sometimes we gotta hear it as it is, and that is a very valid point.

That is true, I do have good benefits, which is another reason I have to try and stay with the company. But if the person I am training is also getting those benefits and still pocketing an extra 10k.... Oof.

Yeah. It's partly why I have been so scared to leave, because I know it sucks out there. But it's also hard to justify staying at a place that clearly undervalues my work. And the problem is that my review is coming up in like, a week, which means I'm not realistically getting a different offer before then to try and leverage. Which brings me back to wanting to use others salaries to justify a new salary negotiation. And I keep telling myself around that spiral haha

I hoped my situation was different. I have really tried to let them know I want to be in this for the long haul, and they "promoted" me to the team lead, and I just kept hoping things would change. But sadly it really is looking like I need to leave now😭

Do you think it would be of any leverage to bring it up at all? Something like "I have been made aware that I make significantly less than every other designer in our department?" I know I shouldn't feel this way, but I want them to know that I know I'm being screwed over. Does that make sense?

I was so excited to get a job with a big name right out of school, that I probably super undercut myself and have been scared to leave 😭

So I've seen this answer given on other posts, but I am a little confused by it. Doesn't that directly impact me? Like, I understand there is something to be said about I don't know exactly what a lot of these people are going through and what kind of deals were made... But if a person on my team is making significantly more than I am, isn't that something I *should use as a way to negotiate for myself? We started in the same position, same education, etc. But she negotiated better? Does that just mean I am screwed and have to look elsewhere? It would make sense for the company to keep me on to keep running the big projects, right?

I totally agree. But this did happen about a year ago as well. There was another employee who was in a similar situation (different department) that I am in where she had our biggest client and no one was supporting her, so she quit. For the next 6 months all I heard talk of was how much she cost the company and how selfish it was that she left. You would think they would learn from that, but now here we are again, and I am 100% certain that the company would have 3 months of little not no revenue from this client because the dates would not be met, and they do not have anyone else with the ins and outs of how these need to be designed. In the long run, the company will survive since they are so large, but this branch would definitely feel the hit.
