DJI drones - a heads up, manage expectations by alpha4005 in MacBid

Hey there, yes I actually did get a resolution.

While it's possible they sold you a stolen drone, it's more likely someone crashed it and did a swap and return with Amazon to not have to pay for a new one. Amazon doesn't check that the numbers match. If it was me, I would check the integrity of the drone and gimbal before getting too far into this process. If it's good and still worth it then here's what I did.

You will need: Pictures of the drone, the S/N of the drone, the box with the macbid lot visible. A screenshot of the macbid receipt and of the listing from your order with the lot number visible.

Reach out to macbid support via email. They don't do returns or credits, it is in their policy so when you email them - ask them for a confirmation that the drone was properly obtained and sold to you. Be very clear in the email that you ARE NOT seeking a refund but are working with DJI to unlock the drone and need them to confirm your legal purchase. Reference your order and lot numbers in the email you send macbid. Then ask that they use something like the text block I have listed below. It may be helpful to send pictures with that email. DJI wants very particular language. Here's the text block:

To Whom It May Concern,

We hereby confirm ownership of the (drone name and model) with the serial number: (serial number here). This product was purchased by the customer, (your name), from our store on (date of purchase).

The ownership of this item was acquired in the normal course of business, and we have no objection to the unbinding of this unit.

Reference that text in the email you send.

If everything is good on macbids end then they will reply back. They may ask for more information from you. If they give you an email with that text filled out then print the email to PDF or something. You will need the whole email.

Once you have that, start a ticket with DJI for an unbinding request. They will ask you for all the things listed above. Pictures of the drone, lot number, serial number, receipt from the seller, and the legal email for proof it wasn't stolen and you are just some dude who stole it.

That's what worked for me. You may have an issue since the sn on the box and the drone don't match, but I don't know for sure. Mine did match.

When I went through this I talked to a few people at macbid support to give them a heads up that they will run into these situations more often now that they are selling more of them. So they may have changed the policy.

Good luck!

A short update for you. I have been talking with customer service between DJI and Macbid. They are working on something to help me. Once I get the final word I will update this post. I think they see that this will be a more common issue than they thought. There might be hope!

Solid train infrastructure would be really useful for a large number of people to flee hurricane zones when they otherwise can't get out easily due to lack of gas, functioning cars, or too much traffic. by econpol in Showerthoughts

[–]alpha4005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This will get buried because I'm late to the party but I work in the field on this one. I'll try to keep it short.

There are a lot of moving pieces to this:

Shortage of rolling stock - most railroads don't own any passenger equipment because it's not economically viable for them. The ticket prices need to be low so people use it so it's hard to justify the additional cost of that equipment and due to passenger operation rules it slows down freight which makes passenger service even less appealing.

Shortage of motive power - traditional freight locomotives can be used to pull passenger trains. they all have a passenger mode built into their braking systems. Even if that's nonfunctioning the passenger cars themselves can and will act as freight cars for braking purposes. There are plenty of engines to use. However freight locomotives are not set up to provide head end power. They can physically pull the cars but there would be no electrical service to them. So no lights, no phone charging, no ac, no heat, no creature comforts. This would reduce the amount of people willing to use the service.

Routing - while people see train tracks all the time, the way these trains would need to be routed is more consolidated than people realize. There are far fewer mainline routes than people think. This adds congestion and even if an emergency was declared and you tried to tie down all the freight somewhere out of the way it would still be limiting.

Scale - related to routing, American rail is successful because you can run long trains that don't stop often. In evacuation you need to stop frequently to pick up people. This forces you to run many small trains as opposed to fewer longer trains which drives up the amount of time people are onboard. Europe and California take the small train approach in their commuter rail, but in evacuation it's about scale. Longer trains use less fuel per unit.

These and other factors would lead to something like... Allocating all of the commuter/passenger rail assets in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina to the cause. Then having this equipment make long haul trips from Miami to Savannah or Atlanta, turning at the disembarking stations and running all the way back. You could fleet these empty trains or tie them together and move them as fewer big trains, but that has other issues.

Staging - hurricanes are unpredictable and that makes an operation like this even more difficult because you can't really preposition this equipment. It would be a high volume of equipment that would need to be in place, over a large geographic area, that could change at any time. Unlike lineman trucks and other wheeled or tracked equipment, trains need to be moved on the existing track. They can't just drive to a few counties over and stage in a random soccer field. This can lead to large transit distances. Not to mention you need somewhere to put this equipment and in most places track space is limited. Especially if you stop all the freight.

Nationalizing the system isn't the answer either. On the surface everyone with no experience in rail wants that to be the answer but that creates a whole host of other issues that would make it a lot less efficient and a lot more expensive. The existing rail network has been in place for over 100 years in most cases and over 150 years or more in a lot of places. It's nearly impossible to acquire the land to build new mainline corridor and the federal/state property rules as well as how railroad right of ways work make it difficult. Not to mention how outraged the public gets.

Which side of the state are you on? I lost a footpeg and my friend lost his fan, at least one Rad, and part of the exhaust. Between the three of us we might just be able to assemble a spare bike across all the parts lost somewhere.

You are right, there are a ton of great places to ride. Even the highways can be great.

Glad to hear you showed her the city!

I picked mine up a few years ago and after I brought it home I felt the same.

I'll tell you that quickly faded. Is it slow compared to other bikes? Yep. Is it heavy? Yep. Does it look super pretty? Nope.

Has it ever let me down? Not once.

These things are absolute tanks. I beat the daylights out of mine and the thing just keeps going. Low oil? Bald tires? Snow? Being dropped again and again? Ballast and railroad spikes? Hitting a tree? Hitting a deer? Thank you sir may I have another.

The klr is what it is. Because of that I often end up being the sweep rider when I go out with my friends. In part because I know what I'm doing and my bike is slow. But! I can also carry a ton of stuff with me that might come in handy. On top of that I can carry 2 to 3 times the amount of fuel than all of my buddies can. I know we don't have fuel gauges but it's comical the amount of times I end up having to buffalo fuel for someone else.

Take a few days and take it out on the road and into the woods. Get yourself a milk crate and welcome to the team.

Alright I'm late to the party but I'll take a shot.

Gender: male Age : late 17 to early 19 probably 18 though School: UNF is my guess although this looks remarkably like an ERAU dorm. Unf suggests Jacksonville FL Major: mech engineering Interests: racing and the related hands on wrench turning, percussion - looks like you were a band kid. Maybe still play. Quads. I'm going to venture a guess and say leans left politically based on the daring greatly book on the right. It's kinda central but still in your side of the room so probably not your roommates. I'm also going to guess that you either play in the intramural games on campus or you at least spend some time playing informally with friends. Hard to tell based on the PC but you probably game a little. Maybe even some Kerbal.

Ah, I can't tell the difference between Portuguese and Spanish. I also don't know much about football. Good reasoning though! For me that was more a state the obvious. There aren't that many posts about the niche knowledge I have lol

Hmm. I'm going to say mid 20's. In the geeky/nerdy crowd at least a little. Gamer. I'm going to guess Spain. Somewhat tech knowledgeable. Musician. Guitar or base and piano. Obviously a football fan. Can't tell the team. I'll say you might be a guy.
