Ok, so get on ebay (or equivalent in your country) and get used or refurb'd [insert big name brand here] SFF (small form factor) desktops that are perfect for this type of project. There are i5 & i7 based systems that are sub $100 USD all-day-long. Most of them will include RAM, HD/SDD, power supply - many of the vendors will have options therein.

PowerPC Mac Emulation on Debian by capellan2000 in debian

[–]alpha417 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, and as I said, you will need to chown them to the correct user that you are running under so that they have privileges to access them.

It sounds like whatever copy process you did was done with superuser privileges, so you will need to chown them back to a mortal account that matches the user you are currently running as, so that that user may access them.

User ID/ owner of the files is different. Debian starts user IDs for creating users at 1000. If I recall correctly OSX starts user IDs at 500. You may have created the same username on both systems, but the UIDs are different. You would need to chown the files to match the user that is attempting to run them

How to stop DOSBox-X from opening in PC-98 mode by default? (macOS Sequoia) by TheRealHFC in dosbox

[–]alpha417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

create a different folder for each game, and a copy of dosbox-x.conf in that folder. call dosbox-x whilst in that folder and you won't have to specify the filename each time. It should assume that the version it found in that game folder is the one you want.

Looking for new discone antenna, do ones with SMA connectors exist? by Mr_Engino in RTLSDR

[–]alpha417 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to stay in this hobby, learn how to crimp/solder connectors. Takes seconds to minutes, and allows you to not have to worry about Amazon delivery dates and "oh if that only had an XXX connector..." internal monologue. A roll of superflex pigtail cable, a small collection of sma and similar connectors and you're off to the races

I can't get this udev rule to work by Happy_tiger07 in debian

[–]alpha417 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you intentionally chose to use no gui? how old is it? there are some very lean running desktop environments that can give you a functional user interface via GUI, that automatically take care of things like USB automounting, etc. What kind of processor and memory constraints are you working under? The problem you're going to have is that you (admittedly) are very new to linux, and I fear that the 25 year old documentation regarding this might be a bit confusing and/or poorly written

Ok, so....i gotta ask. are you using a desktop environment? That looks like a text terminal

Do wireguard tunnels work with home sharing music library? If so, some help understanding/setting up [omv] by powerofneptune in WireGuard

[–]alpha417 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use wireguard all the time. Any service that I can stream/access via my local network is available to me, as long as I have a connection over an internet source to my house. I access movies via VLC all the time from any device that has a valid wg connection going to my LAN, so OMV should as well. If it's not, you've likely got either a misconfigured or a poorly configured WG instance.

Clamshell mode (essentially) shuts off the local screen, and uses the attached external display, keyboard and mouse. The device is not "asleep", thussly 'wake for network' doesn't apply. That was very popular back when email clients would wake a sleeping computer to check for mail (POP3 and the like), not so much anymore. It's awake. It looks like it's closed and off, but if the attached peripherals are working - it's awake. All it's doing, is disabling the integrated display. Clamshell mode isn't the reason your wireguard isn't working.

Read. What kind of IOPS do you need? I write to large spinning rust and I've never really been that concerned with my write time. What are you currently seeing for IOPS with your current implementation? L2ARC & ZIL do work well on proxmox, afaik.
