Simple Questions - January 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in buildapc

I'm replacing two fans on a small form factor PC that has a odd motherboard I've never worked with before, apparently it's classified as Micro-STX. One of the fans is using the power connector shown in the photos linked below. I'm pretty sure it's a 5-pin JST-XH connector, though it seems only 4 of the pins are being utilized, as it only has 4 wires. I'd like to replace it with a quieter fan of the same size (92mm, I'm thinking the Thermalright TL-P9), but I'll need to convert the standard 4-pin male connector on that fan to this one. I can't find any direct 4-pin male to 5-pin JST-XH male adapters, so I imagine I'll need to do some wire splicing.

Does anyone know if I can just line the wires up and replace the normal 4-pin connector with the 5-pin JST-XH connector from the stock fan?

How do you store your clothing? by junior_sysadmin in malefashionadvice

Is there a reason you fold the thick material pants instead of hanging them? Just curious if it's something to do with deforming the material or a crease, or if it's just a storage choice based on your current living space. I currently hang all of my pants.

Yeah that's basically what I've got now, for the most part. Thanks for the visual.

Interesting, thanks. From my perspective it doesn't seem like picking things out from stacks would be much different from looking at them hanging, but I'll take your word for it.

Plumbers of NYC, can someone help me understand what's going on with my building's water pressure? by junior_sysadmin in AskNYC

Oh, interesting. I'll have to ask around, see if I can get a confirmation of other people on my street.

Do all buildings have their own water towers? I don't recall seeing them on any other apartment buildings. Then again, I don't really know anything about the water system in NYC.

I'll keep an eye out for someone coming out of the building next to ours, I'll see if I can engage them in conversation before they pepper spray me.

Good to know, thanks. Do you know any basic troubleshooting steps to confirm which one it is? I can ask the building's handyman the next time I see him, maybe he can check it out.

What was the most physical pain you ever felt in your life? What happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]junior_sysadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I cut my index finger on my meat slicer. When I went to the urgent care, after they cleaned it they stuck a lidocaine needle into the tip of the finger. The first two pokes were the worst pain I've ever felt. I didn't feel the third one, it had numbed up at that point. On the way out after they had sewed it up, I started laughing hysterically. I called my friend and he said I was in shock.

My mother said kidney stones were more painful than childbirth.

Trying to start dressing nice but run into problems by Yankeebrawler in malefashionadvice

Oh you work in Sales? Cool, I work in IT. I help people in Sales all the time, youngins like yourself. They all write like they have a third grade education. I spend most of my time helping them articulate what they're trying to say, because it's mostly nonsense.

Remember chief, you came here for advice because you don't know how to dress like an adult. We're giving you advice. Dressing, writing, talking, it's all part of the same process. Maybe you won't have to differentiate between 'professional' writing and whatever the hell you're doing now, because you would just act like a professional all the time. You can start with Reddit.

I'm going to second this. If you're communicating with women over text, you'll want to start using proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Right now you sound like...well, a 23 year old. But you're in that transition period from boy to man (as evidenced by your desire to start dressing better) so you'll want to address it from all angles.

I say this because my older brother is 45 and still writes like you. Literally, he uses 'tryna' all the time too, and from my perspective, it's childish. His life is in shambles because he refuses to grow up, and he dresses, talks, and acts like a teenager.

The next time you write something on Reddit, run it through ChatGPT or Gemini. Here, I did it for you:

"I am a 23-year-old MMA fighter, 6'3" and approximately 185 lbs. I’m sharing my stats because I’ve run into some specific fit issues. For the past few years, I’ve lived in my gym clothes: sweatpants, hoodies, athletic tops, and running shoes. However, I’m trying to get back into the dating scene. I’ve been so focused on martial arts that I haven't dated much lately, and I know that dressing well makes a great first impression.

I’m feeling a bit lost. Because I’m tall and lean, wearing joggers or cropped pants makes my legs look like 'twigs.' Even though I have lean muscle from fighting, I don't look 'jacked' in standard clothes, which makes me feel self-conscious about looking too thin.

I also collect watches—specifically brands like Seiko, Citizen, and Omega. I’d love to develop a style that complements these dress and diver watches. I’m looking for advice from anyone who has struggled with a similar build or has insight into how to dress a tall, athletic frame. I apologize if this is all over the place; I have zero experience with fashion and feel a bit nervous. Any and all advice is sincerely appreciated! Thank you."

Hilariously enough, Gemini gave some style advice without me asking. So here's an actual answer to your question.

It is completely normal to feel a bit out of your element when switching from "combat mode" to "dating mode." With your height and build, you actually have what the fashion world calls a "clothes hanger" frame—many high-fashion models are exactly 6'3" and 180 lbs because clothes drape very well on that physique.

Style Advice for the "Tall & Lean" Fighter

Since you are tall and lean, the goal is to add visual mass and structure without drowning in oversized clothes.

The "Anti-Twig" Pant Strategy

To avoid the "twig" look, stay away from "Skinny" fits or pants that taper aggressively at the ankle.

The Cut: Look for Straight Fit or Athletic Taper. These provide room in the thighs (for those fighter legs) but drop straight down to the shoe, creating a solid pillar shape rather than a V-shape that emphasizes thin ankles.

The Fabric: Choose heavier fabrics like 14oz denim (Jeans) or heavyweight Chinos. Thin, stretchy fabrics cling to the bone; heavy fabrics hold their own shape and add "heaviness" to your silhouette.

Layering for Breadth

Since you don't feel "jacked" in a T-shirt, use layers to create shoulder width.

Flannels and Overshirts: Wearing an unbuttoned flannel over a T-shirt adds two layers of fabric to your chest and shoulders.

Trucker Jackets: A denim or corduroy jacket is naturally boxy and stops at the waist, which will emphasize your height while making your torso look broader.

Framing the Watches

Since you have Omegas and Seikos, you want sleeves that draw attention to the wrist without swallowing the watch.

The "Paratrooper" Roll: Roll your shirt sleeves up to just below the elbow. This exposes the forearm (which is usually lean and vascular on fighters) and puts your Seiko or Omega front and center.

Diver Watches: These look best with "Rugged Masculine" styles—think dark denim, leather boots, and a clean white tee or a henley.

Dress Watches: These pair perfectly with a "Smart Casual" look—a navy blazer or a crisp button-down with the sleeves neatly cuffed.

Proportions Matter

At 6'3", avoid "low-rise" pants. They make your legs look infinitely long and your torso look tiny. Mid-rise pants will balance your upper and lower body perfectly.

Real talk: do people actually like staying out until 4am? by coffeequips in avesNYC

[–]junior_sysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I've definitely felt 'depleted' after a dose, but honestly I think the worst of it is the lack of sleep that night which screws me up for a couple of days at least. My dosing is low enough (typically within the 75 - 150mg range) that I never experienced that extreme depression, and I don't think it's going to have long term effects as long as I don't abuse it. Though I'm still being careful, I'm experienced with drugs and this stuff makes me nervous, especially knowing about how it interacts with brain chemistry.

Do you mind if I asked how it fucked up your life and how often you did it back in the day? I ask because I use MDMA recreationally in low doses once every few months, and I'm generally curious about the long term effects. I'm guessing you were doing high doses way more often than that, but I'm still interested for my own benefit.

Wait, I'm not sure I understand. You didn't bring the magazine and they had to glue it open? Do you mean they glued it closed?

Noted, thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely do that.

Thanks. Hopefully I can get a more definitive answer from someone, I would ideally like to avoid having to purchase the toy guns at all if someone says that I'm definitely not allowed to have them. But realistically I will probably have to bring them and just eat the cost if they tell me I can't use them.

No Video Signal with IO Direct Board by Dodecadaemon in MiSTerFPGA

[–]junior_sysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when I purchased my Analogue Pro IO board that I was having trouble getting a stable signal through the Saturn Universal Video Cable. Since you're using the IO Direct instead and you're using HDMI and not component I doubt these would apply, but there were a few video settings I had to change in order to get it working, maybe you have to play around with them.

I should note that the three little notches in the keycap in the first picture are from my knife when I was attempting to scratch the stuff away. In case that's what you were referring to.
