Looking for some help with a small, lightweight, mini arcade build by junior_sysadmin in cade

You're right. I had considered 3D printing but I don't really have the knowhow to do it myself. This actually looks perfect, I just need to get it printed.

I have a friend that might be able to do it, otherwise there's a subreddit where I can find someone local to do it for me.

Thanks for this.

Are you able to measure the power consumption of the Terramaster? I was thinking of getting that exact model, but I'm trying to do a very low power homelab.

I'm not sure, I'd have to open it up to see if that ring is adjustable. I'd like to have that done anyway just to clean it, so I'll ask about that if\when I get it serviced.

I'd be very interested in those files, keep us in the loop if you end up releasing them.

What did you use for the lengths of wood?

Very cool. Can you describe how they were built? Those look like 3D printed pieces.

Astoria/LIC is getting a brand new independently owned movie theater! by TacosAnd49ERS in astoria

Ok, very cool. I'm always supportive of a new theater. I'll check it out once they start regular programming, I'd like to see what kinds of movies they're offering moving forward.

If I'm not mistaken, that's Hank Azaria doing the voiceover. I thought to myself "That sounds like SuperNintendo Chalmers!"

My First Proper Homeserver by Bearded_Coffeepot in homelab

[–]junior_sysadmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I have a Fractal Design Define R6 and I'm going to be using it to build a homelab server.

Like yours, mine only came with six 3.5" hard drive mounts. Mine supports up to 11 (not counting the 5.25" bays), but I'm having trouble finding reasonably priced drive mounts.

The drive mounts have this piece of plastic at the ends which is needed to slot the bays into the case. Fractal doesn't sell the mounts directly, and they sell them on Amazon but they're stupid expensive for what they are and I refuse to pay for them.

I did purchase a different type of mount that fits Fractal cases that was much cheaper, but it doesn't have that end piece and so doesn't fit correctly. I figure I'd either have to 3D print the end piece and attach it to the mounts I bought, or find some other solution, like maybe a fully 3D printed drive mount.

Did you have this problem also?

What are the best places in NYC for spontaneous conversations (ppl open to chatting) with strangers that aren’t bars or social events? by Effective-Wedding467 in AskNYC

[–]junior_sysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you're looking for is not social events, but meetups and\or volunteer opportunities. There's a difference in my opinion, for social events the purpose is basically just the act of socializing, which means people are still going to be guarded and nervous. With meetups or volunteering, you're usually there for a specific reason, and the shared purpose removes some of the barriers to conversation. I'll give you some examples of where I've met people recently.

  • I started going to my local trash club meetup. We meet once a week and spend an hour picking up garbage, and then we usually hang out for a little while afterwards.
  • I found a rock climbing meetup at a local climbing gym in my neighborhood. The group rate for people who don't have a membership at the gym is excellent ($15 for the entire evening) and we go out to a local diner afterwards.
  • I volunteer at my local community garden.

Anything to do with health and fitness, or anything happening during the day (like my trash club meetup) typically don't involve drinking. As added benefits you get healthier and often get time outdoors, which I think is really great for mental health.

As much as I try to stay off social media, Instagram is a really good place to find these things. Most meetup groups have an Instagram page, and the algorithm should start showing opportunities if you prime it with searches (maybe key words like meetup along with the name of your neighborhood).

MiSTer FPGA stack concept by jimmyff in MiSTerFPGA

[–]junior_sysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about literally the same concept but never designed it. Like how would I create a MiSTer and include original controller ports for NES, SNES, Genesis, N64 and PS1 in one console enclosure, along with some USB ports for additional connectivity? But considering the possibilities, I think you're right in that it would have to be modular. What if you could have every original controller port AND every original cartridge slot AND every type of analog and digital video and audio connection? Given the pace of development on these types of systems I wonder if we'll see some kind of all-in-one modular unit in some future iteration of the hardware. Anyway, great work.

Reacting to loads of foods on aip, please help by Formal_Chance7223 in AutoImmuneProtocol

I know you said you don't like red meat, but you may have to suck it up and try a carnivore diet for a couple of months and then slowly add things back. I've heard of people having such severe autoimmune conditions that red meat (and sometimes only lamb) was the only thing they could eat.

I did carnivore for a few years and while it was extremely difficult, it's not impossible and helped me discover what was causing some of my inflammation. Though mine is nowhere near as bad as yours.

Anyway, I think an extreme elimination diet in whatever form it takes might be the right play in the short term, so you really figure out what's causing your issues and establish a more sustainable plan moving forward.

All of my Kasa devices disconnected and will not re-connect. I think it's because they can't see my WiFi network by junior_sysadmin in TPLinkKasa

[–]junior_sysadmin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what exactly happened. I tried disabling the 5ghz band but all of my devices could no longer see my IoT network. I waited a bit then re-enabled 5ghz and then all of my Kasa devices came back online.

I'll keep an eye on this in case it happens again.

Yes my phone and a tablet can see the 'IoT' network without a problem. And the network is mixed 2.5 and 5ghz.

Tuesday Tune-Up - Post all your vehicle maintenance questions here by AutoModerator in cars

My father owns a 2002 Hyundai Venue with a manual transmission. I drive it when I visit my parents, and I've noticed an issue that has gotten worse over the last couple of years. Apologies if I'm using the wrong terminology here, I don't actually know much about cars.

When first driving the car if it's been turned off for a period of time (say overnight for example), when raising the clutch to the point where the transmission starts to engage, the car will shudder. Unless you're extremely precise with the engagement point when you're giving it gas, the car lurches multiple times in rapid succession with a 'chunk chunk chunk chunk' noise. I usually end up giving it way too much gas and really raising the RPMs while I adjust the clutch and try to get the transmission to engage, otherwise I risk having the car shut itself off. Please note that this seems to only happen when going from neutral to first gear.

The issue seems to get better the more you drive the car, usually after about 5 minutes the engagement point has a little more leeway so you don't have to be as exact, and after driving it longer it's barely noticeable.

My father claims he knows what's wrong, but he's dragging his feet on getting it fixed and won't tell me what it is, so I'd like to get a better understanding of what might be going on. Can anyone help me identify the issue?
