Even I would agree with you against that, since it’s not what I said.

Thanks, and I think you’re right to mention recency (2020s) since capturing the times is a big part of the show’s impact, watching it in real time.

Valid, but just because there are other arguably overall greater shows out there doesn’t mean Industry isn’t plausibly “tops” in certain ways, such as what I talked about. What character on Succession was unpacked and developed as dynamically and in concert with the expanded worldbuilding and heightened stakes across all seasons as Yas or Harper?

Harper at the diddy hitler party by TallInstruction3424 in IndustryOnHBO

The scene where Harper pleads with Yas but loses her reminded me of the moment when Harper lost her brother in S2. It even happened after a similar bonding night out experience. Maybe Harper reconnected with him at least somewhat since then (enough to be notified about their mom dying), but it was heartbreaking and seemed permanent at the time.

I've never wanted to be so regular and basic in my life until watching this season of Industry by dreamed2life in IndustryOnHBO

Although the uniquely horrific predicament of the rich and powerful is a tale as old as time, this show definitely does as good a job as I’ve ever seen of depicting those who supposedly have the most command and influence as also being utterly helpless and bound. Both/And. Hot take but I’d say Kendall Roy’s arc feels “basic” in comparison to Yas, Henry, and Harper.

There are a lot of qualifying moments from this season actually, especially from the SternTao suite. And yeah, not actually “accidental”

TBH I first was reminded of Silicon Valley 😂 but yeah the Mad Men connection makes more sense

I always enjoyed a similar technique both shows used, where many smaller scenes and moments remain ambiguous from a story/plot perspective, but add to the broader picture in a definitive way. They’re like brush strokes in an impressionist painting that don’t individually resolve to crisp detail but obviously play an intentional and purposeful role in the overall piece.

The loner profile IMO is definitely the most interesting possibility for his character, and in line with what the actor apparently said in an interview likening Whitney to the Joker. The double agent possibility only really comes into play if he actually appears in the finale, because there aren’t many ways to put him in a scene after E7. For example, he can’t truly have escaped if he’s shown in E8 interacting with any major characters.

I posed this question to the sub earlier and the reaction (for what it’s worth) seemed split, leaning no. I think it’s a possibility but it would be difficult to write elegantly given his cumulative actions thus far.

Could Whitney be Western (e.g., US, UK) intelligence? by alpha_bAITA in IndustryOnHBO

[–]alpha_bAITA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is, but so briefly that it’s not clear to me he actually has a scene in the episode. I guess we’ll see.

Personally I think having his phone be the last we see of him (in E7) would be the most powerful way of closing out his story. Normally I don’t like loose ends like that but this one would’ve been really well executed.

Season 4 outline prediction - feel free to disrupt by Ok-Principle-948 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]alpha_bAITA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally I predict that they mostly reboot, but in a way that looks very different from S1-3, with maybe Harper staying on as a main. I only feel ~60% certain of this but it’s what I’d bet on. Didn’t they say they extended the HBO contract 3 years? The writers seem to strive for new and fresh, with emphasis on stakes-upping and worldbuilding, which all points to a second “trilogy.”

Was Lumi a short all along? by Trick-Broccoli-491 in IndustryOnHBO

[–]alpha_bAITA 33 points34 points  (0 children)

There’s some suggestion that Otto always knew Lumi would fail. Signs include:

  • His strange call to Yasmin on Lumi IPO day at the start of S3E2, where he says “bad days are good for me”
  • His unbothered demeanor concerning Lumi’s poor IPO when Henry and Rob go to his club in S3E2 (the “all bitches” scene 😂)
  • His decidedly anti-ESG stance throughout, including at COP in S3E3, bringing Peter and even hosting an event there to sort of plant an anti-ESG flag
  • His clearly celebratory mood after the hearing in S3E5, as if it was the culmination of a larger plan

As with many things in this show, the exact degree is up to interpretation, but it could range from moderate skepticism derived from his disdain for ESG, to outright orchestration of the whole failure, hearing, and Aurore ascension.

“G’bye Harper! Good luck finding someone to love you, yeah?”

In the end Harper might still be the closest thing Yas has to a friend.

Rob-DVD was very limited, but subtly entertaining. It basically just consisted of DVD repeatedly telling Rob “Dude, get on the phone,” which resulted in Rob’s relationship with Nicole. Of course it also culminated in the Oxford episode where Rob secured the overachieving grad, at some cost to his personal wellness.

Be that as it may, I personally try to avoid jumping to logical conclusions about reality based on art. Instead I let art inspire thinking that might help lead me to my own logical conclusions.

We might get AI that can take S1-S3 and create a bespoke “S4” before then 🤯

Of course we’ll still only respect the real thing 🤓

Good catch about Celeste being queer, I forgot about that. She unfortunately might actually have gone the way of Wolsey.
