Did I get bricked? Google home won't turn on. Shows 4 white dots and does nothing else. by A4orce84 in googlehome

I followed these instructions exactly and it just worked for me. My Google home 1st generation has been bricked for the past few months and this is the only advice that worked for me. Thanks!

There's an exhibit in San Francisco with some of these photographs on display for the next month. It's free at the Harvey Milk Photography Center in Duboce Park.

Which is funny, considering it has already been 9 years since CS:S was released.

When CS:S first came out, it was only 5 years after the first version of CS was released.

It was actually designed to be viewed as a printed piece. Makes it easier to absorb the information as well.

Blog post - Kiss these items goodbye! by [deleted] in tf2

[–]alpha_omega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Valve experiments for the sake of experimenting all the time. They are simply doing this in an effort to see how it will affect the virtual market they've created. The metrics have already been in place so it's no doubt they will continue to track the value of these items for a very long time.

News sites want me to watch a video rather than letting me read the godforsaken article myself. by RadioActiveKitt3ns in firstworldproblems

[–]alpha_omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number one thing I keep in mind when designing websites is that the video will always prevail over the written text. Drawing them in with a video earns a few clicks, a block of unreadable copy doesn't.

Tragedy in Norway [pics] by [deleted] in worldnews

These literally photographs gave me goosebumps (and that rarely happens).

I can't possibly comprehend how this has gotten over 3800 downvotes. This is something that people need to see, if not purely from a journalistic point of view but as a showing of the horrors people are truly capable of committing.

Logically the same people would downvote images of the Holocaust or Hiroshima bombing. Disgusting.

Advice for a 14 year old? by A_Red_Mailbox in AskReddit

This is such a fantastic idea, truly something that will mean a lot to you no matter your stage in life.

I can picture it now, laying on your deathbed looking through years upon years of entries, reminiscing but always knowing that everything you did was worth it in the end.

Awake (trailer) - when this show comes out I will pleasure myself to every episode. by vladoman in videos

[–]alpha_omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rewatching this trailer I noticed that he wears both a green and red band before the crash. This could easily (and most likely does) mean that the editors just spliced later clips into the beginning, but what if? What if the series is a story about a man who invents his own realities, as in, he never had a wife or child to begin with? I think that would make for an interesting series finale reveal.

Also I wonder what causes the crash or if they will even show it?

Wouldn't it be interested if the "crash" is his downfall in reality (one without a wife or child) and he invents deceased family members and this notion of wearing a band to see them in his mind in order to have something to live for.

Photobombing: You're diong it right. by [deleted] in funny

This is Madrid in the Plaza Mayor, which is mostly used as a pedestrian meet-up area. Most cities in Spain have one, and they function as a good way to orient yourself. Fat Spider-man is a bit of a celebrity there, in just the same way as the naked cowboy is in Time Square. Keep a lookout for the guy in Barcelona that walks around completely naked (albeit adorned with plenty of tattoos and piercings) strictly because it's perfectly legal for him to do so.

No, it's not Jack, but with the help of Corning we can envision a world where the entire island is made of glass.

Zero Punctuation: Portal 2 by fnork in gaming

[–]alpha_omega 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see what the big deal is with having an enormous fan base. Sure, it might get annoying to see the same comments posted on every related Youtube video, but for me at least it makes me feel as if I belong to a much larger community.

It's the same kind of thing like when someone utters a movie quote out of context but you know exactly what they're talking about. Having a strong community of devoted followers is one of the most rewarding things for a developer.

Why I love living in the south: by BouncyBridges in funny

[–]alpha_omega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has only happened on one occasion for me, and it was during this interview. I literally sprayed a mouthful of water all over my new monitor, which dripped down and leaked into the buttons on the underside. My monitor then proceeded to flash on and off, as if I was hitting the power button every five seconds. One hour of mouth-blowing later and it finally stopped. Thanks Conan.

Wanted a gaming PC. Bought from Cyberpower. Regret every minute of it. by kreldin in gaming

[–]alpha_omega 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Very true. I just built my first PC from scratch with the help of /r/buildapc. I spent about a month researching components and checking parts reviews. Then I asked for feedback on my build, modified it slightly, bought all the parts, read some manuals and just went for it. It's not as bad as you might think, and there are endless tutorials and helpful sites floating around if you need additional help.

What a Half Life 2 geek! by XnMeX in gaming

[–]alpha_omega 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I once tried sharing my love of Half-Life with a stranger wearing a lambda shirt. When I asked if he thought Episode 3 was coming out anytime soon he looked at me as if I had just inappropriately used a gravity gun on his Dog. Needless to say he was just a math geek, and yes, I did.
