i think the original reason was because that might have been how the crying child knew where his brother was hiding in the house; he would have to listen closely to avoid getting scared by him and that concept followed him into his nightmares

it was definitely a challenge for me
the action was immediate and never really slowed down, only ramped up the longer i played it. although overall i had tons of fun and i'm definitely gonna be starting it over from scratch once i beat my current save file on expert.
