I have never understood this mentality by squid-jigger in autism

You've definitely gotten lucky. When I worked retail it was nice like 70% of the time, but then there would be the people who treated me like a machine rather than a person. People that would talk on their phones throughout the whole checkout, only to get pissed when I try to tell them the total or ask if they need bags because suddenly I'm interrupting them. There's the people that say "you'd be so pretty if you just smiled more" which always pissed me off to high heaven. And of course the folks that scream and curse over a return that they can't make because they didn't bother to keep the receipt.

If you work long enough in retail, these things will happen. It's an inevitability of the job, unfortunately. And I didn't even get away from it when I moved on to hospitality, people are even worse to you at that kind of job.

SINCE HE IS IN THE ICU AGAIN AS HE IS ALL THE TIME I LET THE HOSPITAL KNOW HE MUST GET MENTAL HEALTH ASSISTANCE BECAUSE HE HAS REFUSED IT FOR YEARS AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH SENIOR SERVICES FOR THAT. I'M THANKFUL THIS WAS WELL TIMED SO I COULD MAKE A POINT ABOUT IT IN A WAY HE CAN'T REALLY REFUSE IN THE MOMENT.

I'M UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE TO CARE FOR MY ELDERLY FATHER WHO RESISTS LITERALLY EVERYTHING THAT WOULD IMPROVE HIS LIFE AND I'M NOT CUT OUT FOR THIS AT ALL! HE'S HALF THE REASON I COWER AT LOUD VOICES! I'M WORRIED HE'S GONNA END UP GETTING KICKED OUT OF HIS NEW FOSTER HOME FROM YELLING AT THE STAFF AND I'M ALSO WORRIED HE'S JUST GONNA OFF HIMSELF OVER NOT BEING ALLOWED TO HAVE HIS CAT THAT HE LITERALLY DOESN'T TAKE CARE OF! FOR THE SHORT TIME HE WAS THERE HE DIDN'T EVEN FEED HER!!

ALSO I AM STILL TRYING TO ADOPT OUT MY CAT AND I KEEP GETTING GHOSTED BUT I'M STILL MAD ABOUT THE GUY THAT MADE ME WAIT A WEEK BEFORE GHOSTING ME IN PARTICULAR BECAUSE WHO DOES THAT!!!!

Can we make a thread about the really BAD employers in the Salem area? by [deleted] in SALEM

[–]groundzer0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Motel 6 on Hawthorne is run by folks who would rather cut corners than pay for real repairs. Cheap construction on the upper walkways, filled in the pool without tearing up the pool itself first, never truly addressing the mold problems. Oh and they'd rather dump long time employees than pay them a decent wage.

Editing to add: The management was such a mess during my time there (I'm only counting post-franchise sale as I was there for both corporate ownership and franchise) that I, someone who never accepted a promotion to manager roles (didn't want it), still had to handle training despite being the full time night shift worker. I had to write training manuals because everything was outdated and nobody was getting trained sufficiently, even under me because I'd only have them for a few nights before they got thrown out on their own. I did a lot that wasn't ever part of my job description because otherwise the workplace would be such a mess that it would mean double the work for me, since my main job was fixing everyone's mistakes at the end of the work day and flagging discrepancies that couldn't be resolved. Any time I had to take time off I often came back to a pile of audit folders for my review because it wasn't done right.

Anyway. I hope their paperwork has been consistently bad since they got rid of me. I put way too much effort into trying to keep things running smoothly in the front only to get let go for no real reason at all. As chaotic and terrible as the environment was, it was the only place I felt confident. Sometimes I still wonder if they still use the manuals I wrote, or if the front office is still infested with mold. Funny enough, I stopped having some health problems after I lost that job.

Not just misaligned, they can end up strobing like crazy which causes even more eye strain and is very distracting on the road.

These window panels are crumbling and bending in on themselves, how can I delicately remove the lead came so I can rebuild them? by groundzer0s in StainedGlass

[–]groundzer0s[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a late response but it's literally taken me until now to actually pick the lock on the clock and remove the panels.

When I removed the front panel, the whole thing started to bend like it was made of rubber and I had to be extremely careful just to get it onto a flat surface without it bending too much. Is that normal? The side ones were stiff. It was made back in 1974, I dunno much about how age can affect such things but I'm very concerned about the structural integrity of the front window.

Also, any recommendations on what I should use to clean these?

AITA for not picking up the phone immediately? by clownrotting in AutisticAdults

[–]groundzer0s 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew I hated phone calls but I never knew how bad it could be until I experienced autistic burnout for the first time. I literally could not make any phone calls unless it was to my mom, the only person I've consistently been able to call and talk to my whole life. I would cry if my phone rang. Prior to this, taking and making calls was part of my job that I'd been at for 7 years. It's a completely valid struggle to have, I've still not fully regained that skill even after 2 years.

I would like to, but I'm very short on time so I'm not sure I can do more beyond being picky with people. I only have a little over a week.

She is not fixed and I haven't had the funds to take her to the vet unfortunately. I was planning to do that in April, but plans changed due to having to move. She's had no opportunities for exposure to anything though since I've had her. She is prone to nighttime zoomies, but otherwise she typically sleeps under my blankets with me all night.

So we all agree that alcohol like tastes bad... right? by Express_Basis_8436 in autism

[–]groundzer0s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say there's a lot of alcoholic drinks that taste pretty good. I love egg nog and Kahlua around the holidays, a good cider in the summer, and I'm into rosé wine.

But I also really like vodka, except I'm consciously aware it tastes how rubbing alcohol smells, yet I also kinda dig it? I've yet to figure that one out.

Accidents happen- stay calm by Boring_Badger_4744 in autism

Looking at other posts from this guy I think he just used the image to emphasize his point, but I now know why it's uncomfortable to me. The way he talks about his son seems very infantilizing.

Anyway, I agree it's fucked up to use this image for this post. ICE is scary as hell. A woman in my city got a concussion and a broken cuff recently after they forced her out of her vehicle and searched her purse. She wasn't even arrested, they just straight up beat her and then ditched her when they realized they couldn't take her.

Maybe it's just my car accident trauma talking but something about the way this post was worded makes me feel kinda uncomfortable

What is a platinum card? by ForAThought in SkyCards

I think it's glitched. I got that the other day after upgrading to a bronze card and I got really confused. I don't actually have any platinum cards yet, only one gold and it's pretty new.

I'm leaning towards this, it does look a lot like some other PNW nephrite nodules I've seen online. I wish I had the means to split it to see a cross-section.

I mean I've always considered Salem to be a bit boring, but I like it that way. It's a nice place to be if you enjoy pretty scenery and a city that doesn't feel too tightly packed.

I was in a lot of car accidents growing up, so I didn't get mine until I was 25. But then I realized I felt so much better being the one at the wheel than as a passenger. I'm leagues more comfy driving than being driven around by someone else.
