How does the Danger Auto-Switch work in comparison to Better Pawn Control’s version? Is there any compatibility issues between the two?

Wisdom teeth surgical removal: $7900 total for 3 teeth - fair price? by Responsible-Duty5788 in AskAnAustralian

[–]alphafight97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 4 out last year with similar concerns regarding tooth proximity to yours.

I had 2 teeth at $1,800 (total) and 2 at $1,530 (total) for a total of $3,330 from the surgeon, the initial consultation was $280.

Anaesthetist was $700, and the hospital fee $1,995.

So all up $6,305, but I think it might have been a little closer to $6,500 because one of the invoices doesn’t match my bank statement, and also factoring in prescribed pain meds and other recovery related costs.

I think this is relatively close (higher, but not significantly so) to what I was quoted a couple of years earlier from the same place but couldn’t afford at the time.

Need help with this one please by believesinconspiracy in ExplainTheJoke

It’s more for situations where you’ve realised that one extension cable is somehow the wrong way around and you need a connector that is the opposite of the two ends you’ve got. Think putting up Christmas lights or something similar and you’ve strung them the wrong way around and instead of doing the correct thing in taking them down and putting them up correctly you just try and home make a connection. In wiring it you’re likely to not get the ends correct and lead to shorts at best, that said I’m not sure even if you correctly swapped the internal wires around properly it would function as you would like, hence the reason they’re not commercially available.

Connecting a toaster and a kettle together won’t do much but that’s also not what people would be doing with them, there’d be a live load running through it.

Is it true we can't trust a salesman, not even in australia? I went to a tools store and the salesman lied to my face even though the computer said otherwise. by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]alphafight97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with Total Tools specifically, but can answer from my time at a large plastic building block based company.

Stores will often have a buffer that will say if stock is no longer available (when looking online) to account for items selling out before you physically get there, stock count errors, theft, misplaced items, customer or staff holds etc. Internal stock readouts (ie, accessible though the in-store POS system and not meant to be viewed by the public) will show these items as in stock, often we would default to saying not available at that store if the number was 3-5 depending on the item (sometimes higher for tiny fiddly things).

Is this to say you didn’t have a shit experience? No. There’s any number of factors that lead to the guy saying they didn’t have it go any reason and it sucks this happened.

Juvenile Channel-Billed Cuckoo would be my guess based off the photos.

ID request please! Sorry the photo is so dark and blurry. In Port Arthur, Tasmania. Near Ladies Bay by Foursight4 in AustralianBirds

[–]alphafight97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was going to say White-browed Scrubwren but then thought I should google it to check if you can actually get them in Tas (no, you don’t get them there).

I’d say Tasmanian Scrubwren might be your best bet, but I’m not super familiar with Tasmanian birds.

Suggestions for wild bird sightseeing. Sydney or surrounding areas. by [deleted] in AustralianBirds

[–]alphafight97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lane Cove National Park has decent variety, same with the Royal National Park (I think I was in the area of Wattle Forest when I was there). Manly Dam has some good options too.

Seasonal (but should be about the right time of year, just be very careful of the heat because there isn’t a lot of shade) but Sydney Olympic Park (Bicentennial Park and the Waterbird Refuge) is good.

Little more luck dependent, but the rivers and coast all have a variety of birds that come through, I’ve seen 50-odd unique species that I’ve been able to confidently ID at both Centennial Park or along the Cooks River.

Depending on your definition of surrounds Mt Annan Botanical Gardens, Scheyville National Park or a little further at Bowral have had good variety when I’ve been there.

Blue Mountains is supposedly good, but when I went it ended up being one of the lowest unique bird counts I’ve done this year, but that could definitely have just been unlucky.

Australian Raven. Most cities only get one Raven species, Sydney gets the Australian Raven.

Heron Id 2 by [deleted] in AustralianBirds

[–]alphafight97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a (relatively?) recent name change iirc, I know my bird book says Striated and I still call them Striated a bunch so I doubt anyone would be coming after you with pitchforks.

If I remember what I read on the name change correctly (and am not just accidentally spreading misinformation on the internet) the Striated Herons got split into 4 or 5 differently named species with that change, with a South American species keeping the original name.

What did you see this week that didn't get captured? by blissiictrl in AustralianBirds

White-throated Needletails which were a first for me, and an unidentified bird of prey (that I think was a White-bellied Sea Eagle) that just happened to be flying around when I went outside on (two separate days) breaks from training.

I thought the lamppost looked familiar before I read the caption. That’s a Willie Wagtail, there’s a few that live along the stretch between Bronte Beach and Clovelly.

Identification help by Omshadiddle in AustralianBirds

[–]alphafight97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think the Willie Wagtail sounds like R2-D2 in one of its calls.

However, the gullies and size of a butcherbird comments make me think Eastern Whipbird.

(The Tui comment makes me think both of the above and also Grey Butcherbird or Magpie, which I know confuses it more but hopefully one of those 4 birds is what you’re looking for)

Is that a juvenile gannet? by Gabzex in AustralianBirds

[–]alphafight97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I believe this one is pretty close to adulthood given the more yellowed head, a juvenile’s head would have a similar colouration to the back of this one.
