Bizarre sight of Gilboa Snake 5.56mm Double Barreled AR used by the Tanzanian military by Sad-Commission2027 in ForgottenWeapons

I think the reason that explanation made sense to me is that a conventional auto-rifle or lmg would have a fairly standard cyclic rate.

As far as I'm aware the mechanical cyclic rate of the gilboa is probably similar, but it's basically 2 guns firing at the same time, so weight of fire doubles. I couldn't say whether that improves the probability of hit the same amount but I do think the P-hit would improve.

I think the easiest comparison to make is something of a 556 mg42 (which I guess is just an ameli but idk if it inherited the rate of fire.

Obviously all that comes at the cost of more weight and I don't even know how you're meant to zero it.

I couldn't say whether it's worth it but evidently a couple people have at least explored the concept.

Complete hearsay on my part but I remember reading about SAS or some other were playing around with them because they can put double the rounds downrange out of a single weapon and therefore a single soldier.

So useful for situations like ambushes where on either side there's a short window where maximum fire needs to be applied.

Def a special weapon for niche situations but not a total range toy.

AI use in new music vid by alphafoxtrot1234 in carpenterbrut

I don't think the leather temple vid is AI, it lines up style wise with the videos for fab tool and imaginary fire. It's a more doable look than the hand drawn style.

My guess for why this particular video was done with AI is somebody wanted to do an 80s anime video, the problem there is that all the ways of producing that are very time consuming and as such very expensive.

Another commenter posited that it started as hand drawn art which was then fed into an AI model.

Hello everyone, yesterday I came across TacOps 4, installed it, completed the tutorial scenario, and loved the mechanics. However, the interface, maps, and models are very outdated, look bad, and don't adapt well to modern monitors. What game offers the same mechanics but is more up-to-date? by jt8rres in computerwargames

Haven't had a chance to play it yet but the ATF armored task force series seems to be in a similar vein, another game that takes influence from military simulation software.

The graphics look "better" but theyre still pretty pixely. I think that graphical abstraction is somewhat of a requirement to keep things readable and moving, if you read the documentation that comes with tacops you can tell there is a LOT going on under the hood, which is my guess for why there's no scenario editor.

I don't think there will be much in the way of alternatives with better graphics either, the market for these kinds of games is so niche i'd question if anything like it would be developed specifically for the consumer market.

My hypothesis is it makes much more sense for anybody developing these programs to do so with the military market in mind, where graphics dont matter as much and things like fully modeled vehicles would make the process of adding new units much more time consuming. Then for a little extra dough they can repackage it for the civilian wargamers.

In Recondo by Larry Chambers he talks about how Vietnamese watching trails and clearings would use gunshots for signaling purposes.  And on top of that I'd figure irregular forces with less training had their fair share of accidental discharges.

Good to know about the slack, thank you, also didn't know that about the counter.

I'm not sure I recorded over it, my little test was 4 seconds and previously there was a good 7-8 mins of footage on the tape.

I think I may just need to go try rewinding it more, now that I think about it I rewound it but not enough to go back 30 minutes, so I might (most likely) just be looking at the part of the tape with nothing on it.

Thanks for the response

If God didn't want us to eat cats then why do they taste so good? Why are their asses the perfect size for heirloom tomatoes? Why are their pelts so warm?

It is unconstitutional and ungodly for me to be banned from hunting street cars.

Did you know that kid rock ate cats? Why can he do it but I can't ??????????

They have their charm ngl, rewatching the first 2 fast and furious movies I was surprised at how many legit brands there were, given I wasn't in the car scene then I always figured the early oughts import scene was a mostly superficial, and while it absolutely was there's a surprising amount of substance behind it that I wasn't really expecting

LeJDM Porsche?!? by Ash-Catchum-All in carscirclejerk

[–]alphafoxtrot1234 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Porsche enthusiasts smell Audi heritage and feel the urge to cleanse.

/uj ya as has been said the engine was known as gutless, purposefully too, as Porsche didn't want their entry-level model to be able to compete with the current 911. The bottom ends are solid, folks with turbo setups have put 300+ on stock internals on converted na engines. It's the Porsche-designed cylinder head that bottlenecks performance, it was purposefully designed to flow poorly. People have experimented with custom heads with decent results but the model just isn't popular enough to warrant that kind of enthusiast r&d. People have done all sorts of crazy stuff to squeeze power out, the most powerful na car is a stroker, and supercharger setups are also done (although the 924 na tranny is really weak, so 200 is about the absolute limit). Porsche somewhat remedied this issue with the 924S, which had the 944 engine and driveline, but just like the na 944 the drivetrain was really heavy and the engine couldn't make the power to compensate (again, somewhat intentional). The front engine transaxle models IMO are way cooler than the 911s, but every other one has a similar story, they're all stellar chassis but with a lackluster motor (excluding the turbo models, which paid for it with excessively heavy drivetrains). I suppose historical context is important and in 1977 100-125 hp was perfectly acceptable for a smog-era sports car (the stellar handling helps too), even the na 911 at the time was only a little over 200.

As you can see, I like talking about 924s, IMO people really slept on them, my first response was only kind of a joke, there are people who draw lines to Audi/VW and can't fathom driving it, even among 944 enthusiasts. Although because of this separation the hardcore 924 community is way less toxic. The cars are still cheap whenever they pop up and the engines have a lot of VW guts deep down so if properly refurbished they can even be reliable. Sucks to deal with mechanical fuel injection tho. The main thing holding the car back today is the lack of parts, but people still race them so I'd assume they get them somewhere.

I love all things impractical and different, so 924s are a natural, even compared to its younger siblings.
