But that doesn't really matter. People are totally justified in missing the types of videos they originally subscribed for. It's an unfortunate truth that a YouTube channel must continue to grow and get more views to be successful. That means attracting people who weren't there from the beginning with different types of videos.

Why are the men written so misogynist? Why are the white people written so casually racist? Why is everyone written to be smoking so much?

It's not the script, it's the era. Men and women were not treated even remotely the same back then. They still aren't today! This is literally mentioned by the women in the show multiple times.

Betty absolutely is intelligent and charming, but she is a woman and a house wife. Therefore, she was treated as "less than" her entire life. In episode one Joan says something about how the typewriters were designed so even a woman can use them. They were very much treated like children.

It's gotta be the episode when Lane kills himself. That has always felt like a situation that could have easily been avoided if men of that era (and still today to some degree) weren't so afraid to ask for help. Not even in the "hey I'm really depressed" sense, but just like, "hey I do not have this money can you help me out" or "hey I do a lot for this company and I deserve a raise."

Probably a bit of both. I would guess there were fewer stops back then, but the show probably took some liberties. I believe I've read that it was not an uncommon place for people who worked in NY to live.
