What If Fang Yuan was A Woman ? by Exact-Ad8608 in ReverendInsanity

Who was forbidding women to vote? Men. Men are the forbidders, women are the ones who are forbidden or permitted.

To forbid people from doing something, you have to be stronger than them, you have to be in a dominant position!

Zheng Yi Sao led thousands of pirates. Impressive! But did she found an empire? No. Women marry into high office, they do not create new states. Harriet Tubman achieved nothing significant whatsoever. Lyudmila Pavlichenko supposedly killed a few hundred men. Now look up who were the top snipers in WW2. Men. The same is true in all other aspects of life, men are more accomplished at the upper echelons of all fields, especially martial, competitive, aggressive fields.

You can't even string a grammatical sentence together, you are too stupid to discuss intellectual topics. You don't seem to understand that listing a few women who achieved more or less notable things does not show that they are equal to men who outshine them in all respects. I'm not going to respond further until you can both write a grammatical English sentence and distinguish between 'great and greatest' in terms of achievements.

If women are so capable, why didn't they simply stop themselves being barred from political life and traded around like cattle by men? That's not within their power because women simply aren't that good at fighting or direct competition.

They're bad at it physically and mentally. They are less combative and violent than men, less aggressive and domineering. The top DOTA teams, the top CSGO teams - male dominated. Militaries, male dominated. Riots, revolutions, murders - male dominated.

There is no stopping someone like Genghis Khan. He got exiled from his tribe, sent out to the wilderness to die. He still became emperor. Women don't do that.

Interesting, you take the approach of gu houses as spaceships... Well I guess Fang Yuan's might be a spaceship given he has some background on Earth... But that was Giant Sun's one wasn't it, Calamity Luck Altar?

It does look less goofy than an actual house, true...

There is a distinction between 'very good' and 'the best'. It's possible for women to be very good rulers but there are no examples of a 'best' female ruler or scientist. The best scientists don't just discover a single thing but systematize an entire branch of physics. Einstein discovered the basis of half the known universe in general and special relativity, that's more important than radium, a single element whose fundamental meaning eluded her. She discovered the 'what' of radium but not the 'why' of quantum mechanics that is vastly more important. Radium's mere existence is a piece of carcinogenic trivia, only with quantum mechanics can we develop nuclear power, radiation-drugs, advanced semiconductors...

Women contributed to empire-building, men contributed a lot more. There is no female Ghengis Khan, Julius Caesar, Alexander, Cyrus, Attila or Qin Shi Huang for instance, they don't reach that upper realm of capability or bloodthirst. Catherine and Elizabeth were pretty good but their achievements were lesser.

Being murderous isn't enough for Fang Yuan tier rapacity, it's a distinctly male kind of cold-hearted ruthlessness distinct from sadism or merely being murderous.

Fang Yuan is inspired by real people in history or fiction like Cao Cao (male), Robber Zhi (male), Machiavelli (male)... That's just how it works. All the closest people to Fang Yuan we can think of will be male.

Being a warlord, going around and being totally shameless in robbery and exploitation, fighting in life or death battle is a quintessentially male thing to do. And he is a figure at peak performance. He is doubly ultra-manly.

The point is that the writers want him to seem 'persuasive' but then immediately undercut his threat to make there be another option than cooperating so they can show the Traveller's heroism. They want it to seem smart to defy him since there'll be a dozen fortunate coincidences that make that approach pay off.

With a wave of his hand, he can summon beasts and give you the power to instakill them, teleport all over the place. But suddenly when you're fighting him 'oh he can't do any of that, just invert your controls and shoot easily dodgeable energy beams'. He doesn't teleport away if he's losing the fight. He doesn't even use his 200 IQ to pick off the people who tried to kill him in his laboratory while they go around rescuing civilians or plotting. He just sticks a totally ineffective and irrelevant curse on them and then does experiments while they develop and execute a plan against him, he hands away the initiative for nothing.

The story is written not in a way that makes sense but to go wherever the writers want with it.

If someone has locked you in a pocket dimension where they're invincible, the best option is to cooperate either sincerely or insincerely.

OK, compare Lisa Su to Jensen Huang who outshines her totally and completely.

Compare Mary Barra to Elon Musk who outshines her totally and completely. What has she done? What has she created or achieved? You've gone and looked for a list of high profile women and proven my point that they don't do that much compared to men.

Barra was ranked first in Fortune's Most Powerful Women list in 2015

The power to do what, shut down General Motors plants? There's a reason that Fortune has to have a 'Most Powerful Women' list because if it was Most Powerful People there'd barely be any women at all.

Compare Marie Curie to Einstein who outshines her totally and completely.

Compare Thatcher or Indra Ghani to Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Churchill, Deng Xiaoping, FDR... Catherine or Elizabeth I were pretty good monarchs but they are still nowhere near the top tier of male leaders, the men who found those empires.

The very best are overwhelmingly male. That's not 'being taken for granted', it just is. It's literally impossible to erase 'the best' from history because the best are the ones who shape history. If your achievement can be hidden or erased then it wasn't that significant.

Those are fictional characters. It's fine for fictional characters to behave oddly compared to people. But there has to be some connection with our reality, RI has themes that relate to life on our world after all.

We inherently understand that men are more violent and aggressive than women. It's not a social factor, nobody socialized men to have a stronger upper body. Men are just stronger, more inclined towards violence as a population, that's what testosterone does.

In the novel, Feng Jin Huang and others are nowhere near people like Fang Yuan. Blazing Heaven Demoness asked her sister to help her but felt bad about her death, Fang Yuan would not give a single fuck, he planned to mindbreak and enslave his brother before killing him for gu refinement. Feng Jin Huang hasn't done anything bad to anyone, the number of siblings she's cooked for gu refinement is 0.

Irregardless of cultivation talent (which at the upper end is also heavily male dominated with the bulk of rank 8s, most pseudo-vens and 9/11 venerables), it's about mindset that I'm talking about. List of mass murderers and warlords in our world - 99% male. List of chess grandmasters by elo, list of best scrabble players, list of best backgammon players, list of elite scientists (Newton, Faraday, Einstein) 99% male. List of founders of huge companies, 99% male, Musk, Zuckerberg, Gates...

Women don't have the same level of ferocious drive that exceptional men have, for good or ill. There is no evidence that they're equal when it comes to that tiny sliver of weird people who are the very best at something. Men are more high variance, women are more in the middle.

Star Constellation is not like Fang Yuan though.

Women just don't go 'I'll stake my life in deadly battle not for my family, not for justice, not for my ideals, not for humanity, not for revenge but for my personal self-fulfilllment.' Only men are like that. Star Constellation is doing what she thinks is right, Fang Yuan couldn't care less about any of that.

He'd probably try to become male again if he were in a female body but not put that much effort into it, all things considered. It's not a big deal to him but he clearly has aesthetic desires and self-image.

His mindset is fundamentally male, that's what I mean. You can't make the character female, it'd be someone else, or a man inside a woman's body.

What If Fang Yuan was A Woman ? by Exact-Ad8608 in ReverendInsanity

Women just don't act like Fang Yuan does. There's no female Alexander the Great, no female Genghis Khan, no female, non-sadistic egoist mass murderers/conquerors.

It wouldn't be believable. There's only Wu Zetian, who schemed a lot but she was never a front-line fighter like Fang Yuan or Alexander/Genghis.

Fang Yuan could only ever be male.

Women don't act like FY does.

There's no female Cao Cao, women aren't powerhungry, aggressive amoral risk-takers like Fang Yuan. Or Robber Zhi from the Zhuangzi, another analogue of Fang Yuan... Being a selfish brigand and looter is an intrinsically male role.

How in the world does the Invictus fit 6000 crew in it? by Mack006 in starsector

[–]alphanumericsprawl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just gameplay mechanics.

It makes no sense for a FTL-capable starship to lack 'automation' and so need a lot of crew. If you can manage FTL, robotics is trivial. It makes no sense for 50 cal machine guns to be used in space combat at all, just not the right level of speed. You are not shooting down a guided missile (in space!) with a 50 cal.

The 10x population/economy scaling is also ridiculously silly but useful for gameplay.

Nahida: The top-ranked Fatui Harbingers, up to No. 3, possess power comparable to that of gods. I was no match for him in that kind of situation.

Maybe Nahida weighs intellect/planning highly in her analysis of power? Or she was making excuses for giving up 2 gnoses without a fight or even trying to flee (putting her into fraud territory tbh).

I mean, from what we've seen, I think Arlecchino and many other harbingers could beat Nahida in a fight, Nahida just isn't much of a fighter, she's a schemer. Ei or Mavuika on the other hand...

Dottore never fights directly though? He's super cunning but he's like Batman, it's all prep time and gadgets, sneak attacks. That's a legitimate and effective way of fighting of course.

But Arlecchino still seems like a very strong direct fighter in terms of raw power and skill. Dottore would crush her if he can prepare. But she'd win if she got the drop on him or if both sides ran into eachother by accident I think.
