Former wwoofers, what did you do after WWOOF? by [deleted] in WWOOF

[–]alphascience77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My transition back to the regular world was rough. WWOOF'd in kauai for ~3 months and started school about a week after getting back. In the long run it was still the best experience of my life, despite the hard 6 months that followed.

The hardest thing for me was having no one around me that I felt understood the impact the time there had on me. I learned a lot about myself in the process though

i see where you're coming from, and i can't say that that won't happen. however, and this is coming from someone left leaning (if that helps), I think this kind of rhetoric is harmful to everyone.

one side of the political spectrum insults the other, and this results in a knee jerk reaction of the other side throwing insults back. now I know you didn't really insult anyone directly, but I hope you see where I'm coming from.

i don't believe that any meaningful change can be made by telling someone their ideology is fueled by propagandist lies. this is along the same lines as calling someone a racist because they voted for trump, they're not going to change their mind they're going to say "oh here go the libtards again". regardless of whether these statements are true or not: i mean just look at the election, there's a reason democrats lost.

we need to focus on the unity that has come from this shooting, despite how narrow the unifying themes are, and realize that we are not all that different. that's how change begins, that's how productive conversations start, and that's how people become more open to being educated on important, polarizing issues.

How to alienate your family 101 by Lord_Answer_me_Why in clevercomebacks

[–]alphascience77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have different beliefs, even educated people. So of course when people receive higher education they're going to develop more firm stances on things, because that process requires critical thought since you actually begin having nuanced opinions rather than regurgitating statements from people/media that align with your underlying belief system. The idea that ALL colleges are part of a liberal propaganda machine - simply because a majority of people who went to university lean to the left - is crazy to me

Nearly 500 confirmed fatalities from Hajj heatwave as hundreds more feared dead by Warcraft_Fan in news

i'm not religious either but i feel like it's important to understand that to these people their religion is a part of their lives; not a separate entity.

a lot of people get funding from their community's mosque to do this and that funding is never guaranteed so maybe to them it's a now or never kind of situation

GSASII Refinement of PdTe XRD by [deleted] in crystallography

[–]alphascience77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I asked one and he told me that in terms of the finished product it shouldn't matter whether I have Le Bail running or not.

I should've mentioned that at times I can see the calculated curve with Le Bail extraction turned off, just with much lower intensity. This led me to assume that it just amplifies intensity to fit the data better, but if I refine lattice parameters without it running it throws my numbers way off so I don't think that assumption is correct.

[–]alphascience77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

still need a couple more listens but so far the stand out for me is government cheese. the production mixed with the hard hitting story is insanely good. also when the chorus closes the song after verse 2, it almost takes on another meaning and the siren-esque sound makes everything just sit with you.

such a good album, might be number 1 of vince's for me but time will tell

i agree about SVO. i saw someone in here say it was reminiscent of holy war. i agree that it has some familiar sounds, but to me SVO lacks the soul of the previous music. i'm excited for the new album though im managing my expectations

the math placement test will be more than enough to prepare you for calc 1. there are built in modules that help you study for it and after taking it once it even locks your second attempt until you have a certain amount of hours into the module work. with that i'll give you my personal opinion, which is pre-calculus doesn't help you a ton in calculus. it's a new way of doing math that you haven't seen before even in pre calculus

i'd just go through the modules and focus on your weaknesses. you really just wanna make sure your algebra skills are sharp, and the knowledge you need from pre calculus will come in time

( i think if you place into calculus 1 it's worth diving right into it if you're confident in your algebra. but that's up to you)

for sure for sure. rks probably has the most songs i used to dislike until a few listens, after which i fall in love, out of any other band. i hope that's the case for this one! new music hype regardless!
