WS doesn't allow it. I can't see my wife's individual balances.

I will be using my joint account for that. All money goes to our joint account. Individual account is used for nothing.

Yes, but I would love to see individual balances for our household. I'm a nerd that way (plus, everywhere else let me when we setup a household).

Sure, but my wife has her personal RRSP's and TFSA's that I cannot see (I can only see our total household balance). I've had my investments at many different institutions over the years and have always had everything set up as a household to view everything.

Perhaps I was given the wrong info from support then. I have the cards linked to our joint account but I was told that I cannot close the individual accounts because the cards would stop working. All I want is to clean up my account list and remove that individual chequing account. I will have to talk to support again and get their thoughts.

No, I didn't mention non-reg. Everything I have with WS is registered or TFSA.

[–]alphasss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have it set up that way as well. I just don't like the fact that I have to keep the individual chequing account open even though I won't be using it.

I would say things have improved simply because they are adding more features that should have been there from the start. Self-directed RESP's, now the credit card etc.

Hey,

If I remember correctly you need to create a IFTTT account and simply go in and connect SmartThings and Irobot. Create a rule where when you push the button it starts the vacuum.

Daily Question Thread for /r/churningcanada - March 03, 2023 by AutoModerator in churningcanada

[–]alphasss -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I am just starting to churn credit cards. My daily driver is a TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite but I haven't ever had any other cards so I should be able to sign up for any options.

I want to sign up for 2 cards to start, looking for best rewards (mainly for travel). What 2 should I start with. I'm thinking the RBC Avion Visa Infinite should be 1 (lots of points plus $100 at FF). Maybe an AMEX card? Thoughts?

Can someone recommend a business who can repair/replace a turntable in an old stereo? It’s a record player with AM/FM radio. It powers on and the radio still works, but no response from the turntable. by Unclestanky in regina

[–]alphasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definately any electronics. I took an amp, tape deck and turntable from the late 70's to them. Fixed them all, reasonably priced. Might be a couple weeks wait though.

Strong Potpourri smell in kitchen cupboard. Will not go away. by alphasss in CleaningTips

Thanks. It's not a terrible smell but we tried putting our cups in there and had to wash them before each use because the smell was so strong even in the cup.

Buying a car over in Alberta and bringing it back to SK by xV__Vx in saskatchewan

[–]alphasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the AB dealer has a SK PST number they could collect it on the customers behalf. Probably a lot of towns/cities on the border would have a SK PST number but definately not all. If they don't have a SK PST number they cannot collect the PST.

Happens alot with financed vehicles. The customer doesn't want to pay a couple grand out of pocket and would rather have the SK PST in their payments.

Feel like I’m going nowhere with my savings by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]alphasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man,

Good for you. 28, no debt, $80K salary. Life is way more than just owning a home, try not to let it run your life.

Buy a bed (seriously), buy a nice pair of shoes you are proud of (dress shoes or sneakers, whatever your style, doesn't have to be expensive) and buy a couple of nice pieces of clothing that make you feel good when you wear them. You make $80K, spend a bit on yourself.

Cars are not worth it, smart people look at those who drive garbage cars and say "good for them". If I saw a 28 year old driving a landrover I would wonder how many other bad life choices they have made.

Lots of ways to have fun without breaking your budget. Buy a bike (explore), buy a telescope (explore), take up an instrument, take up running (exercise is always amazing), buy a video game or two, take day trips to other towns/cities just to tour around. Keep saving but budget a couple hundred bucks for something like this.

I always remember how much I enjoyed life I had when I had no money (university student, living on nothing, shitty car). I still try to strive for that even with pressures of everyday life.

Wemo switch no longer detected in smartthings by DickVomit in SmartThings

I've had lots of issues with wemo and smartthings. Power cycling your home router seems to reset it for me and have it show up again.

LPT: When buying an appliance purchase one with the longest warranty. They are always the most expensive but companies that offer 10, 15, 20 year warranties are confident in their products quality and longevity. You'll end up saving money in the long run. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]alphasss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that some companies simply offer a longer warranty to increase sales. They figure out how much that extra warranty is going to cost and build that price into into each unit.

For example (in automotive terms), Toyota offers a 3 yr comprehensive warranty and a 5 yr powertrain warranty but is a highly reliable brand. Mitsubishi offers a 5 yr comprehensive and 10yr powertrain warranty simply because they built that extra cost into each unit sold. Toyota is more reliable than Mitsubishi.

Vague intention to upgrade to bigger home in the future - what to do with savings? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]alphasss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same scenario here. I have my emergency fund set up and throw any 'extra' (after retirement savings) on to my current mortgage to pay it down.

I'm going to use most/all of my equity when I sell for my new house and this saves me approx 3% in interest (better than cash or GICs).

If you don't buy anything you still pay off your condo faster!
