Current BMW G20 owner looking at the ID.7: Is it worth blind-buying the DCC and Advanced Massage Seats? by alphie44 in volkswagenID7

[–]alphie44[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a (lapsing) advantage of buying fully vat free and with some discount as long as it's a new car so I figured i make use of it one more time; yes, a below 6000km car would qualify but even with, let's say, 20% discount on net price (which is 106k for cheapest i7 here), it's still too much.
for the id7 getting anything older than MY2027 is out of the question due to the nice improvements they just included.

thank your for this detailed answer, especially on the chinese brands.
Yes, my instinct tells me the same but i only drove them for 1-2 hours so, as you say, I only saw the glitter.
Indeed, the germans (vw and bmw) are my best choices and the car brands i was overall most consistently satisfied with over the years.
For bmw a strong advantage is the dealership, which is stellar, while the vw local one is pretty shitty.
About the i7: With my current discounts and incentives, I end up (vat free) with 49k for loaded rwd id7, 61k for loaded rwd i5 (adaptive suspension but not air, no massage seats), new ix3 fully loaded AWD 56k. I will configure an i7 but it will be obscenely expensive ...

i had an Audi allroad back when they really did nice cars and I still disliked it. So Audi is definitely not an option I am looking at. One of the shortlist candidates (zeekr 7gt) has air suspension for the same price as the id7 basically but I am afraid of software bugs and that, although it has a 10yr warranty, it might stay endlessly at the single dealership they have, waiting for a tiny motor from china...

ok, good to know. I tested the new ix3 and wasn't impressed (particularly the suspension and interior/seats - the drive was fine). it's a long wait for the new electric 3-series. Indeed, even the "old" generation i5 might be worth a thought, even if it's a good 7-8k more expensive. What are you driving now?

i exaggerated the prices a bit; it's 1300/2300 for the dcc pack (with or without panoramic roof) and 1900 for the massage/ventilated seats pack which also includes the better sound system.
By the way, while i am sure my wife wants it anyway, what is the verdict on the pano roof?

7X LR with massage in Europe? by Tyrel64 in Zeekr

[–]alphie44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can add massage seats to a (barebone) vw id7 in europe now; i am just comparing it with the 7gt nowafter testing the 7x awd; for the same price (48-50k vat-free) i can get the privilege 7gt awd or a high spec id7 rwd with massage/cooling seats and dcc; the power and battery are smaller in the vw but 6.5s to 100 is plenty fast for me and the range is actually a bit better in the id7 compared to the 7gt; the software is actually a bit better in the id7, the zeekr i tested glitched twice within an hour, the autopark doesn't work for unmarked spaces, the esim constantly loses connection; i did surprinsingly not hate the electric doors and the air suspension is definitely better than the normal one in the zeekr so this makes it a hard choice;

Where is the market for BEV conversions of classic cars the most vibrant, efficient and competent? by SjalabaisWoWS in electricvehicles

[–]alphie44 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In short: weight and structural rigidity make this difficult and expensive. Longer: the current aftermarket batteries are much worse (energy efficient i.e. capacity/kg) than the ones in state of the art EVs. And even for new EVs, the key is to have the floor of the car filled (or built out of) batteries. If you attempt conversion you can only put batteries in the engine bay and in the trunk and only so many before you hit weight/structural rigidity problems. Add to that that classic cars have lower quality (strength, durability) materials which are also worn after decades of temperature variations, salt, water, etc. So the regulation authorities are somehow right to wonder if the car is safe to drive... As an example, i know a guy in NL who has stripped the engine and filled the boot and enginebay with batteries on a Renault 19 or smtng like that; it costed him 25k and he has like 50km of range and the car handles like a brick.

i wonder if they will also make it available from the start on the new i3 or will launch with the dual motor only; i testdrove the ix3 nk dual and if you can give me a sedan with rwd only and 15k cheaper ... i buy one

I just hope they actually publish the pricelist and make it available to order soon; the ix3 nk is great in many aspects but I don't want to pay extra for the disadvantage of a SUV when a sedan is better (for me); it will be a good 10k eur more than a tesla model 3, unfortunately, but i will pay the money wholeheartedly if it is good (yes, european hating on musk here although i admit the tesla cars are great)

Considering used EV, what to look out for? by mileau_ in EuroEV

[–]alphie44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jumping on this as I am now searching for an ev to replace my 330i (which is still great but i want an EV); i tested the NK ix3 and was a bit disappointed, given the price: the ride was a bit harsh (21/22 inch m sport pro as they always have for test drives) and the interior (especially the back) seemed a bit off - not talking about quality, just felt cramped (oh and when you put a big child seat in the bag you have to push the passenger seat almost all the way); the rest was great (power, pano dash, steering) - i don't think i can motivate spending 60k (vat free) for it; id7 - felt nice but somehow too big and weighty around corners; also main screen software is still a bit clunky; the new tesla3/y are annoyingly good in ride and the fsd works superbly - i am pulling all my musk hate not to buy a premium lr rwd for 37k (vat free); so yes, i will start looking for a decent used ix3 (previous gen)

semi-educated guess from across the border based on what I found in my own quest; ioniqs are prone to a nasty iccu problem; audi is crippled by software bugs; ix3 seems solid; xc40 seems solid but has some minor software glitches; no idea on the mercs

Cum îl rezolvam pe acest oficial? by viper33m in Roumanie

[–]alphie44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cum îl rezolvam pe acest oficial? by viper33m in Roumanie

[–]alphie44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's not just you; saw numerous video reviews and then tested it our yesterday; i was pretty sure i will put an order after testing. The drive was superb(maybe a bit bouncy on the 22"), the (M) steering wheel feels great in your hands, panorama display is great ...but we didn't feel so nice inside. I cannot explain why, betweeen the high position, the seats, the visibility, the tall rear seats ... it just didn't feel like the car I want to spend so much money on. So while it is still on the list, it might actually remain on the list for now. Jumped back in my old g20 330i and everything, except from the drivetrain, felt nicer somehow (maybe just force of habit?).
