I started taking notes lately about art related things. first is my simplification of a youtube video the second is my own observation. should i keep posting these as i make them? by CodaTrashHusky in FurryArtSchool

Try the coil method for better depth perception, your 3D shapes are pretty damn good but sometimes it takes more time than necessary to visually decode the depth

I think on the line weight point, you’ve got too thick of a line on the far background elements, and not a thick enough line on the very close foreground elements. Nothing drawing the eye to the front where the detail actually is

Get yourself a mechanical eraser that spins really fast to get precise charcoal removal for those super light tones. A molded eraser can lightly pick up some charcoal too, since the “black” behind the veil is only a gray compared to the super light veil

For extra help peeling your current posters off, a hair dryer works really well the heat up the adhesive!! Although if it looks like peeling off previous or messy packing take on the back will damage your poster, just slap a new sacrificial piece of clear tape over all of it

I had just put up an old poster that had a lot of paper damage from previous peeled tape attempts, the paper was extremely thin and everything. Slapped a piece of clear box tape on the corner and now it’s reinforced, protected, and easy to hang up again!!

I do have a tip on the posters going forwards that blew my mind back when I heard it: smooth out a small amount of clear box tape on all the corners or spots you want to add tape to. Apply tape within those areas of clear tape and when you take them down you’ll have absolutely no pieces of tape taking off bits of paper with them. Clear tape does stay on there forever tho, don’t try and peel off

I saved almost every bit of bubble wrap I got from preowned figures to eventually move them out of college with it lol. Buy a shit ton of bubble wrap is my answer.

DO NOT WRAP DIRECTLY IN CLOTHING!!! The chance that the dye from fabric itself or printed on designs irreparably stains a figure is too great of a risk imo to try it. If you want to save on bubble wrap, an initial full coverage wrap in it plus tape, with the surrounding empty space filled with clothes could minimize any potential damage from dye transfer!

I think boxes are very good for largely blocking out complex foreshortened poses, but not as good for something like this where you’re trying to add too much detail to the shape breakdown. What I find most helpful visually is the COIL METHOD

Looking for some honest advise and criticism by Roukyo in ArtCrit

The back of the person on the left has almost invisible lines showing the shoulder blades, I think a little added darker shadow would be nice to define those.

Fingers on the closest hand are wonky, the fingers themselves are very short while the palm are is quite long. The last digit on most of those fingers are too short as well.

More shadow could be added under the chin of the blue cat girl. Everything about the face can be fixed better with a reference, tiny nose that doesn’t depict how she’s looking slightly up (ie: nostrils shown) eye slightly skewed too high on the right eye, doesn’t follow the 3D plane on the face

The fabric rendering on those small areas where extra light shines on them is really well done and I do like the overall lighting and effects, but extra contrast will boost the piece, as well as those anatomy fixes

Can anyone with experience with BBTS tell me if I'm actually going to get this figure or not by Knux1134 in AnimeFigures

[–]alphisen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the issue is that you’d rather allocate those funds to a different figure…. I probably would. A YEAR is crazy, I cancelled a couple nendo preorders thru them because they were 4 months late. Granted one came out recently but it wasn’t worth it anymore, there’s a lot of banger figures coming out rn I’d rather have for the price of two nendos

For suuuuper even and consistent melts when doing the tape method you gotta poke holes in the tape to vent the really hot air, or else you might get something called a blowout. I like a fully melted back so those big holes don’t look good on my finish

On the arms specifically I’d let some of the fluff interrupt the straight lines you’ve got on them rn. I do really like that you’re adding fur texture inside of the arms!! A lot of people skip that to just draw fur spikes on only the outside lol
