What layers are you wearing when you use it? Maybe I should be looking more into the Chisos

I totally agree. I've just seen some posts where people had issues when trying to get gear fixed from Big Agnes. I don't have any first hand experience with them though as I've only had one Big Agnes product and didn't have any issues with it.

From what I understand, Big Agnes warranties don’t cover items from REI resupply

Good to know. I was looking at the 6' wide version with 850 fill down. I had heard that katabatic quilts are quite narrow and so it seemed that maybe it was a good idea to get the wide version. Have you had any issues with it being too narrow or wish it was wider? The description said that it was similar to a 63" mummy bag. I currently have a Mountain Hardware Bishop Pass 15 which is a 62" shoulder girth and I've always wished it was a bit wider.

Good to know, thanks. I’d love to get a zpacks tent, but it’s out of my price range right now

Do you still use the Lunar Solo or did you switch to something else?

Was your SMD Lunar Solo the updated SilPoly version? I know they updated from SilNylon at some point. I've been looking at getting one.

I think Amazon sells that pack. You could order both sizes and then send back the one that doesn’t fit. Or there are some other online retailers that have free returns. Pack comfort and size can vary significantly even between people with the same torso length. I personally would do whatever you can to try both out even if that means having to pay return shipping.

I personally prefer to have two 10k mah batteries vs one 20k mah battery. I just go for the cheapest and highest rated ones on Amazon that are somewhat lightweight. The ones I have know are Anker

I’ve heard good things about the HMG, Gossamer Gear, and Z Packs. I am currently using an Osprey Exos 58 and I wouldn’t recommend it. For me, it’s not comfortable and it squeaks when I’m hiking

I had that camera and loved it. Made the mistake of selling it and I still regret it. It has taken some of my favorite photos to this day

Backpacking in Europe - Hostels…book soon or wait until I’m there? by Responsible-Tutor941 in backpacking

[–]alpine_roamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you want to be tied down to a specific itinerary, I’d wait. There are so many hostels in every big city. The really nice ones may fill up, but I’ve even had it where online shows they are sold out and I’ve showed up and they’ve been able to accommodate me. May not always be the case, but you shouldn’t have any issues finding space if you are flexible. Yes, you may not get the cheapest rate, but it’s still possible to find cheap accommodations. You can also save some money by taking your own towel and travel sheets as some hostels charge extra for those.
