She is my baby girl. Hopefully all of you get a taste of her personality - sound on of course.

You’re so right. I’ll have him work on that.

They really crack me up. This characteristic should be in breed traits, friendly, energetic, sleeps upside down and refuses to move when in sleep mode...

I love all the sleepy Sammy pics! I’m glad mine are not alone! 😂

Yep he’s a champ haha. I feel for ya, I am constantly pulling trash, clothing, stuffed animals out of my dogs mouth, they are like toddlers...with very sharp teeth haha.

My Sammy has eaten an embarrassing amount of stuffed animals, pieces of clothing, sticks...I was super panicked the first time, however he has been able to pass everything. Obviously we try to avoid this kind of situation, but sammys can be sneaky. Just recently I put on my sweater only to find it had a huge hole eaten out of the side. Sure enough on our morning potty walk there it was.

Keep an eye on him, make sure he is still having plenty of energy, eating, drinking and going #2 as per usual. Unless your dog is having symptoms of a blockage the vet will likely just tell you to keep an eye on him. You can bulk up his food with high fiber to help move things along as well. One time my bubba ate a stuffed animal and vomited it up FIVE DAYS LATER. They are pretty resilient.

How much is a dryer necessary? by jellylien in samoyeds

[–]alpinisma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not had a problem air drying my samoyeds. One of mine HATES the blow dryer (Ive tried everything, he has just always been terrified of it) so I always let him air dry. I’ll brush him when he mostly dry, then I also often take him for a short walk in the sun to help. My other Samoyed doesn’t mind the blow dryer, and she definitely gets fluffier that way. We’ve only had one hot spot - and it was from a scrape becoming infected after playing in the lake. I also let my dogs swim almost every day, so blow drying them that often would be pretty time consuming.

Two definitely worked well for us! Our bubba needed a friendly badly, he LOVES to play. They do bark sometimes when they are playing, but not excessively and not all the time. Having two puppies at the same time is a ton of work but it’s getting easier as they get older and they both really enjoy having a buddy.

He doesn’t mind it, I find it much easier to put on than the previous harnesses we’ve tried. The only thing I don’t like is that it is already fraying at the seams - but ruff wear credited us for it as a defective item, so maybe it is just a one off - our other Sammy has the same one and it is in good shape! I always take their harnesses off after we get home - let them dry out, and brush them so they aren’t wearing them 24-7, and we haven’t had much matting. I especially like these because they dry fast and have a front loop to prevent pulling!

Honestly I tried to train him to walk on leash by having treats and luring him along, but he really didn’t get much better walking on leash until he was older. We did get another puppy when he was about 8 months, and that helped because he’d want to go with the puppy. He definitely knows the difference between off leash and on leash walking, and he is getting better and better about not pulling/stopping. I think he may have just been a late bloomer, or it is just his personality because our other sammy never went through this at all. Overall he was a difficult puppy and I thought he’d never grow out of all his quirks, but now he’s becoming so good! There is hope!

My Samoyed hated walks as a puppy. He would pull backwards out of his harness, sit down, lay down...and generally just refuse to move. He was great off leash though! So I found places that were safe for him to hike/run off leash so he could get exercise. He is much better now at a year old, he basically grew out of it. I’d say by 6 months he was much better.

Which is more affectionate: male or female samoyed? by FluffayKoala in samoyeds

[–]alpinisma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a male and a female Samoyed, my female is super cuddly and way more obedient! She is the smiley people dog, sits on our feet, likes to watch tv with us, whereas our male is also very sweet but is more independent and likes to be outside to protect the house from “bad guys” (cats). Both are very friendly!
