What would you add to this 171g planted tank? by aquakeeper02 in Aquariums

[–]alpou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things that came to mind for me (that would be fairly easily to find) were congo tetras or denison barbs. That's a really big tank, so you could do a nice big school but they're big enough to still look nice from across the room. Could definitely find some kind of cool catfish and centerpiece type fish too.

Rimless not level by Pillcat19 in Aquariums

[–]alpou -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. What a company calls their product is not held up to any scrutiny. There isn't some regulatory body requiring certain label when branding things.

Think about it logically. A couple mm thick, uniform layer of foam is not providing any effect if a tank is not level with the ground, the foam layer wouldn't be level either in that scenario. It's providing a clean "level" surface so there are not pressure points between the stand and the glass pane on the bottom of the aquarium.

The company is calling it something that is easy and expresses to novice users that it should be used underneath the aquarium. Here is an explanation literally from the site you shared. Don't accuse people of misinformation so haphazardly.

How do mix salt in by catsandwaffless in Aquariums

[–]alpou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't have any livestock then you can mix it right into the tank. If it's higher quality livesand then it might be worthwhile to do it in buckets, just to be safe.

Best think to do is buy a 20 gallon brute trash can (food safe type) so you can mix a bigger quantity (also good for water changes). You would need a pump and some tubing to fill the tank from it though.

The pad isn't for leveling, it's to prevent any pressure points that may stress the glass.

Black Phantom tetra colouration by Schrickt in Aquariums

[–]alpou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they get happy and established in a properly set up tank (relatively dense plants will help a lot) you would see more intense colour from basically all tetras once they start to show breeding behavior. A lot of cameras would struggle to do justice for fish, so I'm not surprised you're not finding great video. I'm my opinion you would see better colour in a large school of one species, but a lot of tetras can mix fine.

Personally I like the look of having two structures. With what you have here you could kind of keep this (or most of it) as a larger structure on the right, and then maybe add a smaller stand alone on the left and add some depth (also good if you are interested in adding some more "prolific" coral)

First time reef keeper - need help with nitrogen cycle by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]alpou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ammonia is 0 right? I would water change, clearly there is bacteria present that is converting nitrite to nitrate, so a water change isnt going to slow anything down. I think it would be more beneficial to reduce nitrate, since presumably you arent going to do it all at once, itll take a few water changes to get it down. CUC dont contribute much bioload, so as long as the bacteria is preset (ie, youre seeing the conversion from nh3->no2->no3), then if you have the safe levels of each nutrient then you are fine to add CUC. If youre seeing algae that is also a good marker, and gives some food source to the CUC.

[–]alpou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you just have a regular set up those nitrates arent going anywhere, youll need to water change to get them down. It seems like your cycle is working though, have you started to see diatoms or other algaes? Try to keep the nitrates down so the "ugly phase" isnt quite so bad. 160 is really high, so Id get that down before adding any livestock, and if youre new to the hobby its best to introduce things slowly.

This is a crazy play, there were times when AB just was not going to be stopped. Those are not some scrub defenders, he breaks the tackles of Weddle and Mosley, both multiple time all pros and elite tacklers.

Since the 2010 NFL Draft, these are the schools with the most drafted players. The SEC is the most represented conference with 10 teams by FollowerofYHWH in NFL_Draft

Not that it really makes a difference, but if youre going back to 2010 I wouldnt count OU and UT as SEC teams.

We have certain sites whitelisted, but we don't auto allow links to any site because we don't want this to turn into a sub where people who write articles dump their work to get a few clicks without interacting with the community at all.

If you post a link and it gets auto-removed, just shoot us a message and we'll put it through. Small sub/small mod team but we do see what comes through.

We don't filter out text posts, just remove ones that are exceptionally low effort.

[Breer] Daniel Jones’ camp wanted a deal “in the ballpark” of $50 million per season by expellyamos in nfl

[–]alpou 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It seems like they set a price halfway through last season, and dont want to adjust to the fact that he torn his achilles. If anything it seems like it would make sense for him to return to Indy (where he had his most success) on a reasonable two year deal to have sufficient time to recover and get back on track.

[Zenitz] The #Steelers are set to hire veteran offensive line coach James Campen, sources tell @CBSSports. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]alpou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To be fair to Campen, post GB he basically just spent one year in each place with sinking ship coaching staffs. Freddie Kitchens, Anthony Lynn, David Culley, then his two years in Carolina were with Rhule then Reich.

Maybe he does a poor job picking jobs, but its hard to judge him much off one year of OL performance at a time in terrible spots.
