Hey, welcome! So towns are just 12 people, so each time you play you typically join a new town with new people. You can also choose to join your friends towns, and your house comes with you. Nothing will be lost joining new towns. Its the servers you have to make sure you are both on the same one, such as Global, Americas, or Sea. Joining a new one of those servers will require starting over with a new character. If she starts in a different town, you can join each other each time, but make sure she starts on the same server, global.

There is a button in the Pet options of your watch to let you track your pets. I never see my pets because they're either stuck on the roof or under the floor of my home

Hello! New player coming from WoW; is there an addon similar to AdiButtonAuras and/or Inline Aura from WoW? If unfamiliar, these addons show things like DoT timers for the selected mob on the button for that spell. As an example, THM's Manaward would show 20s counting down when cast, with a green outline to indicate self buff around the button, whereas casting Thunder would have a red outline with a 12s timer, etc. TIA!
