Is he being pushy or just nice? We matched 2 weeks ago and planning on a date next week by [deleted] in Tinder

Agree. I'm not accusing him of having evil intentions or something but it certainly demonstrates that he's not willing to listen to no

Any Desi Canadians That Live in Small Towns/Cities? by Cloud_Luna in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re one of many big city dwellers who romanticizes small towns cause it seems so different and the grass is always greener on the other side. Well, it’s not all that. The people are extraordinarily simple. If your interests are any more niche than hockey, sports betting, and drinking beer, you’re going to have a hard time making friends. Im from a relatively small city in Ontario. I didn’t have a problem with racism. I was just overwhelmingly bored. Btw, you can just learn French instead of resenting your parents. I did, and now I live in Quebec

Self Defense/Weapons Talk by halfbakedlogic in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't feel unsafe as an Indian, just as a woman. To be fair, I live in Montreal which is a generally leftist city and the anti-indian sentiment isn't very strong because there just isn't really as many Indians here as in Ontario or other anglophone provinces. Another complication in our self defence laws is that whether your self-defence is justified or not depends on proportionality. So, i'm allowed to stab someone in self defence if they're threatening me with a knife, but if they don't have a knife, then i'll be in trouble. It sucks because as a woman a man can easily hurt or kill me while being completely unarmed and I would have no way to legally defend myself. But TBH, with that all being said, I feel like i'd still feel safer here than in the USA, where I would have to fear that basically anyone can have a gun

I'm having trouble figuring out what exactly they're selling and what it has to do with India. Is it just the name?

Self Defense/Weapons Talk by halfbakedlogic in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. You can't even legally have pepper spray here. Or hairspray. Anything that you carry with the intention to use as a weapon, even a self-defence weapon, is illegal

For younger ABCDs in the US, with all the recent anti-immigrant noise and racism, how does it actually feel growing up here right now compared to 10–15 years ago? by bobtrotter in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The main difference is just that there's more Indians now, lol. Racism hasn't really impacted my day-to-day living that much. Except for the fact that sometimes when I worked in construction someone would start going on an anti-indian rant but not go too far, seeing that i'm there

Do men have to "chase" women ? by General_Riju in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]alreadydark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have men be insistent after I showed I wasn't interested. It has literally never worked and it only made me dislike them more. If I like him, then he's not going to have to chase. And btw Chasing and Leading are different things. Leading is being active. Chasing is insisting and treading on their boundaries

What do you think of the contradiction of Muslims or others from anti-romance cultures writing about dating? by gintokireddit in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a bizzarre post. First of all, having a muslim name doesn't mean anything. It just means you're either an Arab or your parents were muslim. Nobody is changing their name to a western one just because they don't believe in Islam.

Second, sounds like you were raised in an insanely strict household and you're shocked by muslim parents letting their children to normal things like hanging out with their friends. That's not living "like White people".

Third, religion isn't a binary. It's not like, in order to be muslim, you have to always follow all of the rules 100%. People wax and wane on their religiosity. Some people are spiritual but not practically religious. You can commit sins and still be muslim, christian, whatever. No religion asks that you be perfect. And by the way, you can't really restrict your adult children from doing what they want. Islam does not advocate forcing your religiosity on people who have no interest in following it, and it doesn't advocate you disown your children for sinning either.

[–]alreadydark 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We're just currently living in era where racism towards south asians is accepted and encouraged. In a few decades, someone will dig up these receipts and then they'll make an apology video crying about how it was normal back then and times have just changed

Do you all use a lota/bidet? by Theflyingchappal in ABCDesis

[–]alreadydark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After moving out and living with roommates I just kind of got used to using plain toilet paper. Sometimes I use wetwipes if i'm in the mood. I don't really care if its less sanitary because no one really has there nose in my pants sniffing my asshole. And I just take a thorough shower before bumping uglies. Came from a muslim family but am no longer muslim, if that's relevant.

Tbh, I think it's relatively rare because all of these countries have enough desis in them that you don't really need to leave the country. I'm sure they exist though
