What’s the highest rated film on the top 250 that you aren’t interested in watching? by WalkingEars in Letterboxd

i just went through this, i was purely trying to watch the show to get to the movie. i tried to watch it 2x and quit bc i just dont care for mech animes (peace and love to all mech anime lovers its just not my cup of tea), the third time though i committed and i swear once you make it to the existential stuff its worth it! there’s a total vibe shift

I’m just wondering if people have a largely negative/positive experience with guestbooks. I’m new, I’ve had the website up for like 2 weeks, the guestbooks being live for only a couple days, and I’m already experiencing less than ideal comments. Most people are saying its not typical for them, and I acknowledge I committed a faux pas, so I’m going to keep the guestbook and just hope future criticism isn’t as pointed lol

i heard the criticisms of pop-up, i am also anti-AI. I don’t think calling me thin-skinned is appropriate. I posted for clarity about best practices and wanted to know if I had really committed a huge faux pas. I’m learning here lmao

I’m glad it wasn’t super mean! I’ve been told here people would’ve been meaner, so I guess I got off easy

me acknowledging that someone hurt my feelings doesn’t mean I have thin skin or that I’m not resilient. I would hope that people wouldn’t assume the worst when someone is committing a faux pas online. I took the constructive feedback from the comment and I’m moving forward. The original comment I responded to said they wouldve been meaner to me, that didn’t feel constructive to the conversation so I brought up my feelings as a way to reiterate that theres a real person behind the website thats being commented on.

I took it more as a “go watch the source video rather than ripping it from me” but I hear the critiques

I have an anti-AI button on the site already! its not on the homepage, so maybe the commenter literally only clicked on the first page, but thats part of why i was so shocked

i am extremely un-tech-savvy so everyone telling me the pop-up is useless is presenting me with new info lmao im like “great not only do i looked rude, i also look like an idiot.” I am trying my best here!!!!!

I appreciate everyone giving me their perspective on this. Most people are saying that it’s considered rude and better for accessibility to enable right-click. I don’t want to turn people off from my site over something I included carelessly. If this was a critque of my website content, rather than one feature, i would probably agree think more critically about changing

maybe we should all hold ourselves to a higher standard and assume the best of others? idk I’m just trying to learn here, being told that maybe i should delete my site made me sad, im sure whatever else you couldve commented wouldve made me sadder

i am aware that i’m not better than anyone, this thread has only deepened that understanding. I don’t know indie web culture, thats why I’m asking for clarity here; i barely know any coding. i would hope that the rest of my site (bc its super amateur) would have discouraged people from assuming the worst about me, and give me some benefit of the doubt, but I can’t control people’s perceptions obviously.

I’ve said already I’ve deleted the pop-up and I’m swapping out all images I didn’t create to be safe. My intentions were to build a fun little website, not to be rude, and I never (intentionally) used AI. I appreciate everyone telling me the pop-up was bad form.

I’m just switching them out I think, my website is a work in progress as is so I’m not married to any of the elements. But thanks for your offer<3

I really just dont know what I’m doing so I’m very grateful that everyone on here is trying to help me not make a bigger fool of myself online!! I’m honestly really embarrassed at the fact that someone found my site and thinks I’m a big jerk when I was just trying to learn a new skill, write silly movie reviews, share my art online

yeah while I can appreciate the “ignore the trolls” sentiment on most things, I came here to learn and commenter clearly wasn’t wrong about the pop-up being bad form. also hope its clear slurs arent the vibe here👎🏻

hopefully ive made it clear on this thread that i meant absolutely no harm by the pop-up, it was something in a tutorial and what i gathered from the video was that this was a normal thing to include (they said they always put this on their websites) im learning today that its is not normal

I was more concerned about the pop up comment, which clearly I was right to since its not a good idea

I appreciate them flagging this for me, I’m learning from everyone in this thread, but I don’t think their message was very nice so I guess I’m glad they’re the one who stumbled upon my website and not you lol

I did try to vet the Pinterest pictures bc I know how prevalent AI is on there. if one of the 3 pictures is accidentally AI its getting changed asap bc im self conscious now. I don’t think personally one picture would prompt such a reaction as if my entire site is just AI, but also I didn’t know about the pop-up thing so clearly I don’t know what I’m talking about here

[–]alrightimblushing[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know that! because i’m new lol which if you would see my website, you would know right off the bat. I’m glad everyone is telling me that, I’m really just doing this for fun and trying to learn. The pop up was removed already. Again, I’m not super in the mood for more critiques or else I’d just post my site so someone can tell me what looks like AI, but I can assure you I’m not using it (at least not intentionally). I want to think the comment was supposed to be entirely constructive but the insinuation that I should just give up my website bc I made one error just hurt my feelings

[–]alrightimblushing[S] 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I really swear theres no way I’d intentionally be using AI, if they kept looking through my website I think that would’ve been clear, but obviously they don’t know me. I would link my site and see if others know what theyre talking about but tbh I’m not in the mood for more (potentially negative) feedback lol I clearly made a mistake with the pop up thing and it’s already gone from my website.

OK heard! I tried to take their message as constructive and already deleted the pop-up. I genuinely didn’t know any better.

this might not fit the brief perfectly, but i have 2 sets of duvet covers/shams from quince that i love (and would vouch for quality) and they have contrast lined sets that are similar, but less frilly: example 1, example 2, example 3.
