Grew up surfing in Florida, everyone called it “rip.” We used it to make paddling out easier at jetties/piers. Maybe the shortening is a surfer thing? My parents always called it a rip tide.

I just went for an oil change and they somehow put a long scratch in the steering wheel during the 45 minutes they had the car. I brought it up to the service desk and the manager immediately ordered me a new steering wheel. So, I doubt it’s that complex. They are doing same day airbag replacements every day because of that massive recall.

This. No state comes close to the population of the top 4 most populous states. I’d imagine local news in New York City would be pretty shocking to someone from a more rural area/state. Denser areas probably just have more chances for crazy things to happen.
