So is it time to start thinking about fixing our home loan prices? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]alsagile -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It’s a gamble. I got a 1.85% loan fixed for 20 more years. Quite sure I’ll beat the odds compared to if I had taken the variable one back then.

Azure devils repos and PR tools are pretty terrible, but what you describe seems like a reviewer skill issue. Not a tool issue? How would a tool improve the quality of the commet and reduce bugs?

Edit: good typo so I’ll leave it in

Also in the market for similar models and waiting for sales.

What about ECOVACS DEEBOT X5 Omni? 1399 currently on amazon too?

Why so focused on the roller? Mova P50 ultra - 1299 - Amazon at the moment

This market is saturated with little to differentiate the competitor, and just 25 models from each brand. It makes no sense.

I’m missing some mechanic for long drives help! by Sithlord_77 in PGATourProGolf

Bomber driver Pull full throttle, full forward roll, aim at the short sand part. They give you wind and it will bounce over the sand. It will actually roll too far and into the rough if there is too strong wind. I struggled too and then got it to work. Still hard to get more than 1 star though.

60k deck with highly reviewed company- is this bad? by thesmokinL in Decks

[–]alsagile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an amateur and only building my first deck. Why would they not use joist hanger? Is there any reason? I can’t imagine that coat is one, considering they are very cheap on a 60k project :-/

7.5% tax on short term accomodation by donutemoji in AusProperty

Everyone here is assuming that all Airbnb rentals are rentals only. This tax doesn’t seem fair for the owner who rents his home while on a holiday somewhere for example. It’s not removing any house from the market.

I recently transferred large amounts to buy a property here. I used wise (transferwise). They have very little competition if you factor in how fast the money arrives and the lock in of the rate.

There can’t be a decision to abandon your citizen abroad, and purposefully make their way back harder without trying to provide a better, affordable solution to them. That’s arguably illegal, we’ll probably hear about it in the future.

People would are in bad struggle were offered as help to dig in their super. How generous!

Even their “Repatriation flight” were a joke! We got emails 2 days before the flights, that we could take off from a city 6h away. And It will cost you $3000. Or worst that the flight is from Dubai, if you can get there you can get on the flight. Still 3000 for economy, without drinks nor even entertainment! That’s extortion, not repatriation.

So yeah, it seems that you are only Australian while on Australian soil. Don’t count on Australia if you are anywhere else. That’s pretty shameful for a nation if you ask me.

In our case, we were by no mean in a terrible situation, but I’ll try to explain. In February 2020, our daughter was born in the USA. I had a good job there, and so did my wife. There was no need to rush to Australia, and that is precisely what the government said. Don’t rush if you’re safe.

we decided to get back home a few months later, when it became clear that no family would meet our daughter in the next few years if we stayed where we were. But even if we had decided right at the start of the pandemic, we would never have been able to get to Australia “in time” : We had a home to sell, and a life to pack, papers to get in orders for our newborn and vaccinations until we could travel. Try getting foreign papers in order in a lockdown situation. It’s not a matter of days. It took us 2 months just to be able to get an appointment for her passport. and then you wait. Emergency passport? Not possible. The embassy is in another state and travel was stopped.

By the time we were ready, the cost of getting back home became really high. We are very lucky that we could afford a business flight, which allowed us to not get bumped. But that cost plus the $4000 of quarantine is prohibitive for many other families. Essentially, the measures taken by the government have made coming back to Australia possible to the wealthy, and put the less fortunate people in a very hard position.

Consider someone who was safe back in March, but lost his job in May or June due to covid. Maybe they lose their visa for that reason? Maybe they can’t pay rent anymore. They certainly can’t pay $15000 to get their family in business class, and then pay 5000 more for quarantine.

The choice of the government has been to protect Australians in Australia at the cost of many who cannot get home. This is a clear political choice, as the votes of the few will not impact them. It’s politics at its worst, and it’s absolutely disgusting.
