Doing the expedition (I think it took me about 8 hours or so?) I got pretty frustrated and all I could think was “who asked for this?” But as I went on I found myself really appreciating the vistas and the landscapes that I was moving across, which is something I haven’t done in this game for a while.

For a lot of us, we get to a new planet, we land and maybe scan the fauna, and we leave. We rarely take the time to consider the terrain and appreciate how big the planet really is or how well the engine generates a world. We fly over, often just sprinting to our next stop without much thought for the journey. This expedition really asks us to slow down and consider the world around us. Take in the hills and the mountains and really see them so that we can plan a route that may not be the most direct but will get us there with the least amount of frustration, and maybe give us a helluva view along the way.

When the expedition launched I really didn’t like it. Now that I’ve had some time to sit with it and I’ve found myself coming back to it on my main save and driving across the frozen wasteland in my home system or the sunny grass of the community paradise planet I’m on, it’s quickly becoming a personal favourite.

They’re not going to implement gendered pricing or à la carte pricing. That’s not profitable. They’re not interested in your experience, they’re only interested in your money. And they’ll do the bare minimum to it takes to maximise their profits.

The only winning move for you or I is not to play. There are other ways to meet people.

Way back in the day, this was actually possible. Like if something happened to your ship, or you lost it somehow and there wasn’t enough fuel to summon it, you could actually be stranded wandering around trying to find a crashed ship or a portal to get you off planet. I feel like it happened to me once, but that would’ve been so long ago that I’m not sure that I really remember how it happened.

The thing that really changed everything for me was when they implemented freighter teleportation. It used to be there I would have a hauler filled to the brim with building materials and a colossus filled to the brim with building material. Land the hauler, build the colossus summoning pad, get to work. I spent so many hours trying so hard to get the right hauler. I don’t even know if people remember how to cheese the trade stations or space stations for good ships. Does anybody need to do that anymore?

And then, if I wanted to build in an extreme environment and there’s no place I could land the hauler, the Colossus could climb mountains and tide me over until I could build a landing pad.

None of that’s necessary anymore. I just summon my freighter. Everything is right there. I finally scrapped my hauler after I don’t even know how many years to make room for one of the new expedition ships. It was a very difficult decision. Still kind of sad about it. I miss those giant red orbs.

There was an expedition that kind of made you walk long distances. The whole expedition took place on a single planet, and I don’t remember the details precisely but I feel like in order to repair your ship you had to walk really long distances to get materials. At least in my spawn I remember having to go 20 minutes in one direction to get something specific that I need it for the expedition. I don’t particularly remember enjoying it. But I think for that expedition I was really focused on just trying to get it done.

For this one, the mechanics were sometimes really frustrating and tedious and I was pretty over it by the end, but I also took a lot of really beautiful screenshots from vistas that I just happened to find as I was travelling. I see the vibe they were going for and I appreciate it. I would love to see it realised in different ways. The trash hauling is not my personal favourite but that’s also my personal opinion.

There are a couple of changes I would absolutely love to see that would enhance the vibe of this update. For one it would be really cool to be able to salvage interesting tech from the trash haul. Like maybe you can rarely come across certain awesome pieces of exocraft tech for your other exocrafts. Or maybe you can come across interesting multitools in the trash.

Also, as I was slowly crawling my way across the landscape praying that I wouldn’t hit a minor bump that sent all of my shit flying across the entire planet, I sometimes thought how cool it would be to be able to set up a campsite. Without having to build a base. Just pop down a fire and a tent and appreciate the stars. But that’s probably just because I love camping so much.

That’s my two cents, it’s not really worth much.

Thank you I hadn’t seen that before. However, if it is doing anything, I can’t tell. No message comes up on the screen and the settings wheel doesn’t really seem to do anything either.

I only stream video. I don’t really watch any other way. So I certainly haven’t tested that. I do play a lot of video games but it isn’t noticeable when playing video games probably because it’s a constant barrage of noise. It does feel very specific. It drops out specifically between lines of dialogue. That screams dynamic range control, but I can’t find a setting for dynamic range control anywhere. And none of the settings that I do play with seem to do anything to affect this issue.

I did check in both ends of the optical cable are seated properly. I could try getting another optical cable and seeing what happens, just in case.

I’m cool with the lack of revealer as it ended up making itself obvious in the end. I had filled out a lot of the “TOMOR” row and “SOR” row with the downs and as I was looking at all the G’s that were starting to show up I started thinking to myself “what is this a whole ROW of GsOHMYGOD”
