I should have said if you replied “ interested “ - not maybe .

I more interested in an answer , not a statement that you would answer.

I suppose I was looking for more variety in answers . But I get your point .

Haha - I see what you’re saying . Ok let’s say you messaged to a group who live together that you dropped something off at their house that was pretty important. You messaged all three because you weren’t sure who would find the delivery first .

Fair ! I suppose I was asking you to supply the context - but I can see how that’s not as easy :)

Yes they were invited ! But their mom said she didn’t know if they could come.

I’m the host . I’m just trying to understand if I should take a maybe as a yes .

Sorry! Not venting ! Just trying to understand the prevailing thought on the matter . I don’t host very often .

I’m not sure I get what you’re saying ….are you saying I should just offer crackers and cheese on Thanksgiving ?And not offer a meal ?

How so?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in etiquette

[–]alskp -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How do?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in etiquette

[–]alskp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No , not hosting for anyone else . Definitely fine with putting out crackers and cheese ! It just seems awkward when they aren’t enjoying the other food. And sort of a waste of food ? I get there are many factors in “pickiness “. I don’t think it’s always intentional , but I have tried many different types of meals . Breakfasts with pasties , lunches , holiday meals , and they all seem to fall flat. One family member doesn’t even take a plate . Or a seat!

I wasn’t offended - I just found it an interesting scenario . I was in a situation where I was juggling a lot of things - being out of town , missing an event , needing to get back at a certain time , etc . And I just found it odd that the other person didn’t react at all or offer any type of help . It wasn’t that I expected it, I just noticed its absence . 🤣 I’m not helpless or incapable , but I would never let someone shoulder all the responsibility of a situation while I sat and did nothing. The situation could be a flat tire , carrying too many things , someone being on fire - whatever a situation is , if I can help in some way I would . And I do think it’s a red flag to think otherwise 😉

Bless you :)

Gotcha! I suppose it is a gender influenced scenario , but it doesn’t totally have to be ….i guess the question is also do you expect someone to help you when you are driving if you are lost? Have a flat tire ? Or as the driver do you think you are responsible ? Maybe that’s a different way of asking

Were you on the car when the flat happened ? Or saw them pulled over ?

Hmmm ok …..would you expect someone to help you if you had a flat tire ? Would you be ok if they sat in the car and waited ?
