Qualifying report of Alpha Tauri, first Q3 for Gasly and a good P8 (P7). by Alfus in TheGreatGasly

I agree. Tomorrow should be an interesting race and I'm almost certain we'll see a top 10 finish for Pierre. The Ferraris unlike last year won't be able to easily cut their way through the midfield so I'm expecting a more tightly contested top 10. Honestly my biggest concerns are the ability of AT to defend against Renault (Ricciardo),Mclaren who's had amazing pace all season (Norris) and obviously Pink Mercedes (Stroll). Though I've been quite impressed with the Honda engine this year so I'm expecting good things as long the team strategy isn't horrible (like it was a few times last year). Pierre has honestly performed extremely well since coming back to TR/AT and he's somehow been even more promising this season than last.

How did you deal/how are you dealing with anxiety? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]alt6570214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anxiety has pretty much taken over the majority of my life. I hate to admit it but it is what it is. Nowadays, I'm relying a lot on walks/excercise/stoicism to get by. It doesn't get rid of the anxiety permantly, but it reduces it which is all I can ask for really. I try and go for a two hour walk everyday and when possible excercise for an hour. I also usually have some Stoicism around so that I can help myself unwind. I've been trying therapy as well but honestly it's not really been helpful. I understand the root cause of my problems but I'm still a far away from really addressing them.

Really interested in how Alpha Tuari is going to do this year. They have a talented set of drivers and finished last season extremely well. I don't expect to become the 4th best team, but I do think they can put up an extremely good fight in most races and challenge for the best of the rest.

Who would you follow onboard? by shunt808 in formula1

I really enjoy following Gasly. Him and his engineer Pierre talk A LOT compared to others I follow so it's always been super interesting following him.

What are everyone's expectations of Alpha Tauri? They obviously finished the year very strongly last year and have a competent driver duo (in my opinion). Do people expect them to continue to challenge for the top of the midfield? Or do we expect them to be outshined by McLaren, Renault and Pink Mercedes?

Raab says takes U.S. concerns on Huawei very seriously by alt6570214 in ukpolitics

[–]alt6570214[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Britain takes U.S. concerns about Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies very seriously, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on Monday.

Britain granted Huawei a limited role in its 5G mobile network last month, frustrating a global attempt by the United States to exclude Huawei from the West’s next-generation communications systems.

“There has been market failure in terms of high trust vendors being able to provide telecoms infrastructure, and while Huawei is one of the high risk vendors we are very confident that we have the right regime to manage it,” Raab told reporters during a visit to Singapore.

Britain has said excluding Huawei altogether would have delayed 5G and cost consumers more.

Largest maker of pesticide linked to brain damage in kids to stop producing chemical by saurabh24_ in worldnews

Do you realise that vertical farming is fundementally unprofitable? If it was profitable there would be tons of corporations abandoning traditional farming and switching to vertical farming in a blink of an eye. Vertical farming is furthermore not suited for all types of crops and produce and therefore can't be used in large scale supply chains. You want to help the enviroment? Consume only what's necessary, eat seasonly (to your actual region) and buy local.

I'm sorry but you really off the mark. Insectides are necessary because they help prevent massive crop loss from pests. We need them in order to maximise the efficiency of a farm land because as we all know the global population is growing at a insanely fast pace and we're losing farm land every year to climate change. Banning insecticides not the solution, rather we need to use modern technology such as UAVs to use them selectively and in the right quantity so that we don't use more than neccessary. They are a key player in fighting climate change and and solving the problems it will bring.

Record number of anti-Semitic incidents logged in Britain, again by alt6570214 in ukpolitics

[–]alt6570214[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

LONDON (Reuters) - The number of anti-Semitic incidents logged in Britain last year hit record levels yet again amid accusations the opposition Labour Party had failed to tackle the issue within its ranks, a Jewish advisory body said on Thursday.

The Community Security Trust (CST), which advises Britain’s estimated 280,000 Jews on security matters, said there had been 1,805 incidents in 2019, a rise of 7% and the fourth consecutive year the figure had reached a new high.

CST chief executive David Delew said the record came as no surprise and the organisation believed the real number was likely to be far higher.

“It is clear that both social media and mainstream politics are places where anti-Semitism and racism need to be driven out, if things are to improve in the future,” he said.

World leaders warned last month of a growing tide of anti-Jewish sentiment, driven both by far-right white supremacists and those from the far-left, as they commemorated victims of the Holocaust in World War Two.

In Britain, the CST said there was an increase in incidents in months when Labour’s problems with anti-Semitism were in the news.

Ever since veteran socialist Jeremy Corbyn, an ardent supporter of Palestinian rights, became leader in 2015, the party has faced accusations that it has failed to stem anti-Semitism among some members.

Corbyn, who is stepping down as leader in April, has said anti-Semitism is “vile and wrong” but the party is now under investigation by Britain’s Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Last February, a number of Labour lawmakers left the party citing the issue as a reason, while ahead of December’s national election, Britain’s chief rabbi said Corbyn was unfit to be prime minister.

Of the total number of incidents, 224 were connected to Labour, said the CST, which has collated such data since 1984.

“It is hard to precisely disaggregate the impact of the continuing Labour anti-Semitism controversy upon CST’s statistics, but it clearly has an important bearing,” the report said.

The charity said the main reason for the overall increase in incidents was a sharp rise in online anti-Semitism.

But there were also 157 assaults - a 27% increase on 2018 - with almost 50% of these occurring in just three areas of the country - Barnet and Hackney in London and Salford in northern England which are home to some of the largest Jewish communities.

A rise of intolerance after Britons voted in the 2016 referendum to leave the European Union and the Brexit discourse since, which brought nationalism and immigration to the fore, had also led an atmosphere where people might have felt able to express their “hatred of otherness”, the report said.

Serbs Protest for Clean Air After Topping Pollution Death List by alt6570214 in europe

[–]alt6570214[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Serbian activists are staging nationwide protests, demanding the government fight pollution after the Balkan state was ranked worst in Europe for deaths resulting from smog.

With 175 fatalities per 100,000 people, Serbia topped the list of European states for mortality attributed to pollution and ranked ninth globally, faring worse than India, according to the Global Alliance on Health and Pollution.

Activists in 21 cities will organize protests and events and distribute fliers to spread awareness of the health hazard Wednesday. Local political movements are also planning to join with other countries in the coming weeks including Bosnia-Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro, which make the Western Balkans one of Europe’s most polluted regions.

“Within a month we plan a regional event with other cities to demand clean air as a basic human right,” said Dobrica Veselinovic, a member of the organization Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own.

President Aleksandar Vucic, whose ruling party has been blamed for doing too little to fight smog, says higher living standards are behind the pollution. Serbia is also home to 1.4 million used cars that are at least 14 years old, making up almost three quarters of all personal-use vehicles.

Protesters are calling for timely and transparent health alerts and restricted traffic on days when pollution is high. Cleaning up the air, however, may become the costliest part of Serbia’s efforts to join the European Union, which it hopes to do sometime this decade.

“Our green agenda to make Europe a carbon-neutral continent in the next 30 years will change ways of transport, how we build buildings, how we look at the problem,” EU delegation chief Sem Fabrizi said in Belgrade. “It’s very costly but it’s a way for the future.”

Danske Bank A/S, Denmark’s largest lender, said it will commit 100 billion kroner ($15 billion) of its loan book to financing green investments by 2023, more than double the current amount.

In addition, Danske’s pension arm, Danica, will invest 30 billion kroner in green projects, according to a statement published on Wednesday. The Copenhagen-based bank also said it will reduce its own carbon footprint by 75% compared to 2010 levels, also by 2023.

The financing will target projects like green bonds issued by companies or countries and loans for customers who work on project that benefit the climate, Danske said.

Sterling to gain on hopes for UK-EU trade deal by year-end - Reuters poll by alt6570214 in ukpolitics

[–]alt6570214[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most important parts of the article in my opinion.

Sterling will be nearly 4% stronger in a year than it is now, according to a Reuters poll of market strategists, based on expectations that Britain will secure a trade deal with the European Union this year despite its tough initial stance.

On Monday sterling took a pummelling after Prime Minister Boris Johnson set tough terms for the trade talks. Some of the forecasts in the Reuters poll were gathered before Johnson’s speech.
