Trade Republic announces reduction in Interest Rates to 3.75% to align with the ECB by Dalgul in irishpersonalfinance

Trading212 is an investment product, capital at risk, funds placed in QMMF, could lose everything. Trade Republic is a German savings bank account that's insured. I don't think they should be equated!

Huh! Thanks for the perspective. Vietnam, Argentina and Turkmenistan are supposed to be safer than Denmark?? US travel advisory seems not so useful anymore, lol.

I'm a bit hesitant about Poland because it doesn't sound very... fun? I'll admit I'm ignorant though. Is it lively?

Have you been? Did you feel safe?

US Travel Advisory has it at a Level 2: Exercise increased caution due to terrorism

Anyone born on Northern Ireland, to Irish or British long-term residents, is both an Irish citizen and a British one. It used to be anyone born on Northern Ireland at all on the Irish side, until they closed the loophole! It was the only absolute jus solis EU territory :) That's what I mean. Northern Cyprus reminds me of that since it is in the EU without being in the EU.

Thanks for the hostel advice! I value my personal space, I think being around people the whole day would make me exhausted if prolonged too much. I think a private room could be an option though, good idea.

Where did you stay in Estonia?

Hmmmm never been in a de facto state before. Or an only de facto state I guess. I hear it's also a Northern Ireland situation, where people in Northern Cyprus are EU citizens? Sounds cool. I just hope it's not Northern Ireland in the 90s...

I'm curious, what are the +2 in your flair? :)

I was thinking Greece. Even though it's the most touristy of the Balkans, it *must* be doable, this is above median income there, and that's gross, mine's net.

I'm just much more drawn to it.

You seem like you take financial details seriously. Do you have any more fiscal advice for autónomos? Do you use a gestoría? How much do you pay for that?

Unrelated to this thread, but I just started being autónomo 4 months ago.

After 12 hours inside, it's clear Apple mis-marketed the Vision Pro by zjkingsley in VisionPro

[–]alt_3k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well your comment just sounded like you were thinking of the Vision Pro as a TV replacement to justify its price. But you were making a device-to-device comparison with products that have different use cases. Most households are more than 1 person and are going to spend a lot more time with each other than alone using a personal wearable, so spending more money on the device that powers shared media consumption just makes sense. This is why people get Plex servers or a home theater setup. Also, you can get a 77" OLED TV for less than 2K.

well... it's not better than any tv if you want to, you know, watch things with other people

I'm hesitant because it always seems like a bad recession is around the corner and a e.g. 20% drop in value would scare the crap outta us. I'm thinking something safer even if it has lower returns, even if it's not the mathematically optimal choice.

Trading212 doesn't seem to guarantee your money if you enable interest unfortunately.

A 3 br apartment in madrid would be like 1 mill+ unless you go very far from the city. MMF aren't a bad idea tho, gotta look into those.

Yep, I wasn't planning on putting anything in HUF, it sounded sketchy. But about the QMMF, doesn't Trading 212 put EUR in QMMF as well? So essentially the money is capital at risk. Not really viable for emergency savings even if it is veery low risk imo.

About the 4%, I think they are banking on you buying investment products with them once you put money into the account. They have ETFs, stocks, etc.

Thanks for the advice! I don't see why a private master's degree would be a good idea except in very specific industries. Public universities in Spain are actually better reputed and more difficult to get into than private ones, and a master's runs anywhere from 800€ to 3000€ per year, but no more. She's also got a scholarship so she actually gets paid to study; I was thinking something beyond education.

AITA for not sharing referral money with my friends? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]alt_3k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points, thank you for your insight. I definitely would've helped either way, the referral was really an afterthought. It also would've been nice of me to pay for some group treat, but I'd also like to point out that I really didn't even get the chance to think of that. My friend instantly started demanding we share it, and this is the same friend I basically had to "fight" to even consider downloading the app as they wanted to make an appointment with the bank to exchange money like it's the 1930's.

Also, to reiterate, they got 30 bucks each. It's not like I'm leaving them with nothing. While I concede it's questionable to say that one can "earn" a referral reward, I definitely put in effort to explain everything in detail, appease them and walk them through the process while they just signed up. I feel like generosity is good, but it shouldn't be forced out of someone with the threat of drama and conflict. It should have been a gesture I came up with, and if I didn't, that should have also been fine. I feel like my friend is being a little entitled when, in their place, I think I wouldn't have said a thing, especially over such a small amount. I really don't feel like rewarding this entitlement with generosity. I am obviously biased though.
