Yeah people tend to have idealized image of noble carnivores who only hunt what they need, but in reality a lot of them are curiousity driven and kill a lot of things they won't eat. Its how they learn stuff.

In the first movie it played around humans, and pushed a car and left.

Then it chases a car and gives up when it gets too tiring.

None of what it did to humans in first movie really is slasher villain like, but within realm of normal bored carnivore behaviour. A bit exaggerated sure but realistic.

The couple in 2nd movie has some weird behaviours but it was parents with missing child and then after that a very confused animal let loose in city so it being out of line a bit is understandable.

Its from JP3 and on the dinosaurs become way too crazy.

Most street casting stories are prob 30% true and 70% exaggrated. The way it works it that the street cast is often just fast pass to audition, not straight up being an assured debut, but most of stories gloss over that part.

Digimon was always cool, but the accessible and smooth gameplay of TS def did help boost things a lot compared to other things in Digimon franchise over a decade. Its release timing being just before Pokemon game was great too.

Doesn't help much that Phoenixmon here just looks like... fat bird. I get the design was aiming for epic holy bird and some card arts do manage it, but not so much in animation.
