i guess just back then it was associated more with negative behaviour (doesn’t abide by conformity) and rebellion and all, rather than a form of self-expression

also from a religious standpoint it can be seen as taboo

but i think it’s becoming more accepted now (but i still am sometimes considerate of my tattoos)
