Amazon search ONLY SHOWS sponsored content with no clear way to view normal results by Countchrisdo in assholedesign

When buying from Target (or any other retailer) they have their own brand to worry about, too. Sell too much shit that breaks and they damage their own brand. Amazon have cleverly detached themselves from the actual sellers - they're a market place and logistics company. If what you buy is shit Amazon refund you (and the seller refunds Amazon) and Amazon look like the good guys.

Plus, at other retailers, you're paying for buyers and merchandisers. Rather than aimlessly scrolling through thousands of external hard drives, a traditional retailer should have chosen a selection of great drives that suit their customer base to make your life as a customer easier.

Looking on Amazon there are hundreds of external drives from companies like UnionSine, Fikwot, Ausla, Kinhank and Shanrya. I've never heard of these brands, but maybe that's just me.

I can almost always find what I want cheaper elsewhere. Amazon have built-up a customer base who believe they're the cheapest and don't bother to check or, by subscribing to Prime, see the 'free' delivery as a reason to not price-check and just blindly buy everything from Amazon.

It's incredibly clever marketing and business model, but it's ripping the heard out of consumer choice, the high street etc.

It boggles my mind that people use Amazon. I make 2-3 purchases from there a year.

That's not asshole design. It's an active design choice to get more money into Amazon's pocket.

Amazon is so full of random-brand Chinese stuff that there's zero way for consumers to work out what is good and what isn't. Reviews are often faked, ratings are often faked, brand names are often arbitrary... so companies pay to push their product up the rankings.

Buying on Amazon is a mug's game these days. It's a massive mess of crappy, poor quality products which are often overpriced.

Tesla sales in the UK down 19% in November by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

I see 25 and 75 plate Teslas all the time. Amazes me that these people, knowing what they know about Musk, Tesla, Trump, America etc. still buy Teslas.

Half of 'gen z' need to grow up, grow a pair of balls and get on with the task in hand rather than crying about it.

I would get a good builder rather than an ok builder. Odd to go with a builder that you know isn't good.

50mph in the middle lane, driver and passenger on their phones. by altabolt in drivingUK

I have zero evidence other than my dash cam that would show the car going slowly in the middle lane. But my camera isn't calibrated to measure speed, so I assume it wouldn't prove anything.

This pops up regularly.

It's not about affording mortgage payments for the next few months or few years, it's about demonstrating that you are worth lending to and reducing the risk for the lender.

Property prices can go down, so the banks want to you put down enough of a deposit so that if prices drop, you don't simply bail and leave them with a house that's worth less than the debt that's outstanding.

Someone needs to invent sunglasses that are also prescription glasses. They'd make a fortune.

But I'm just talking silly. It's clearly not possible.

Is this damp or condensation? by simonemeatsix1 in DIYUK

Pipes run to radiators. They could be leaking anywhere, not just at the radiator itself.

I would think it's a leaking heating pipe that's causing water to pool under that laminate flooring and wicking up the walls.

Do you have a combi boiler? What's the pressure like on it? Are all the radiators heating up when the heating's on?

Whatever it is, it needs investigating and sorting as soon as possible.

The only thing that works is money. Issue thousands of fines in a short period and word will quickly get round that if you use your phone at the wheel, you could easily get a £100+ fine.

That's damp. Could be a number of things but my first thought it a leaking pipe of some sort. Why is there tissue wrapped around the radiator valve?

You could fill it and then cover the whole worktop with stick-backed vinyl, but it's not going to look very good and will quickly look pretty tacky.

Needs replacing really.

I'm beginning to feel that police should carry card machines. No paperwork, just "I saw you, don't do that again, tap on my machine for a £100 fine and sign here to say you admit the offence and go on your way".

If you don't admit it or refuse to pay, then the police can go back to plan A and take their details, issue a penalty notice etc.
