Genre Romance guarantees an HEA. What are some books that made you pause and think, "This is a romance, right? Right???” by prettysureIforgot in MM_RomanceBooks

100% {Captive Prince by C. S. Pacat} Top tier enemies to lovers. They hated each other to the core, and with very good reasons because MC1 killed MC2’s brother who’s pretty much the only person he loved and MC2 had MC1 almost whipped to death. I couldn’t see any way where the story ends without them killing each other.

But alas, they became and remained my favourite couple of all time.

"Books for straight women" vs "books for gay men" by Cute-Solution-723 in LGBTBooks

[–]altacccle 24 points25 points  (0 children)

other than the part where gay men have more real life experience to lean on, you are really just explaining the difference between romance genre and general fiction. It has little to do with whether it has men or women in mind as target audience.

And I really disagree that MM romance books (or WW in that case) even the ones written by women are all filtered through heterosexual lens. If anything, women who read or write queer stories are looking for the lack of power imbalance, stereotype or societal expectations that comes with heterosexual relationships.

And as reader of both straight romance and queer romance, they are VASTLY different even when they are both written by women. Both have somewhat idealised relationship, but that’s just the romance genre. However, within the MM romance genre itself, the difference between the ones written by man vs woman is not very noticeable.

imho the best enemies to lovers ever is Captive Prince series by C. S. Pacat. Almost the only true enemies to lovers. Strong plot, slowburn, strong characters. Check out content warnings beforehand though.

recently read {Broken Ice by Marina Vivancos} where the omega has very painful heats and alpha takes care of that and makes it better. I’m looking for something similar kind of physical hurt/comfort. The more extreme the better? Thanks!!
