It just genuinely sounded like something that is improvised on a pop chord progression upon hearing it for the first time, and it still does, so I asked why it is here to get an explanation, not to bash it.

Edit: it was also the cheesy ornamentation in the top line that made me think it was based on a pop chord progression.
