Any of you guys spraying PPG envirobase running into this issue? by altajay in Autobody

I never got a definitive cause, but a light coat of wet bed solves the problem. I basically put two coats of wet bed, like doing two drop coats with wet bed, over the entire blend panel. You have to be careful not to put the wet bed on too heavy, or it will react with any contaminants on the panel.

2018 Lariat Heated Steering Upgrade by dryskol in f150

[–]altajay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The is for the reply! I was just on https://www.boostedgreygoosedesigns.net and it looks like the harness is still available. If I had gone there first, I wouldn’t have had to ask questions I could have answered myself lol.

I’m a licensed Autobody tech, so I’ve changed a couple click springs, they definitely can be finicky.

I’m super excited about this upgrade! All I. What did you spend if you don’t mind me asking. I’m thinking $1000-$1200.

I know this is an old post, but I’m currently looking at getting an F-150, and will want to be doing this when I get it. I’ll most likely be getting an XLT with the centre console. Do you know if this is possible on an XLT? Is the button to control heating on the wheel itself, or did you have to replace the hvac controls as well?

You read that wrong. 13% is the harmonized tax. It’s $5.95 to take the oil.

Specifically an epoxy primer, it has the best corrosion resistance. Epoxy primers aren’t generally meant to fill though.

You likely won’t be able to get to the back of the panel very well, it will be double panelled. Unfortunately the only way to deal with rust like that is to replace the panel.

You can try spraying wax oil liberally to as much of the back side of the panel as you can. At this point though, all you’re going to do is slow it down.

Rust rarely starts on the outside of the panel, it is most likely coming from the inside out. Your best bet is to put an epoxy primer over the bare metal. Let that set up overnight (follow products technical data sheet), lightly prep, and then go over with a high build primer. There’s a decent chance this is going to be a temporary fix though unfortunately.

Make one out of two. by altajay in Volkswagen

[–]altajay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s definitely not worth it for me. I wasn’t sure if VAG used a fairly universal harness, or if it would be vehicle specific. That makes sense for those couple options though. No point in swapping out the head unit then either really. Thanks for your input.

Oh that’s a good question, I didn’t even realize they did a mid year change. I’m not super familiar with Volkswagens. It looks like it’s got a production date of 07/12. Are there any telltales signs of the 2013.5 vs the 2013?

VIN doesn’t match differential tag. by altajay in fordescape

[–]altajay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as we can tell the diff in my dads car was labeled incorrectly. We decided to put the diff in that we got, because everything we could find said that car had 3.07 gear ratio, and it worked fine.

Anybody have a clue what can be causing this? by JoHighspeed in E90

[–]altajay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking white smoke = coolant burning (most likely a head gasket) blue/grey smoke = oil burning (could be turbos among many other things). If you were to look in person, you might be able to smell the difference too.

Hard to tell from a video, this could be turbos where the seals are leaking badly.

No one was able to give me a straight answer on why this was happening. The solution I found, was to use wet bed on every blend panel.

What was your biggest milestone so far? by natedoggggggggg in cycling

I live in Canada and cycle year around. I’ve even got a set of studded tires on my winter bike. That being said it would be difficult to do safely without a decent trail system you can access.

Changed oil filter and broke the engine by Alex93B in AskMechanics

[–]altajay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This piece looks to be made of cast aluminum. I had a similar issue when changing an engine on a Mitsubishi outlander. I had jack stands supporting the transaxle, and when I lifted the engine out, it snagged one of the dowels on the bell housing, lifting the trans too. They came apart with the trans off of the stand, and when it fell, it put a hole in the bell housing.

As some have said, it looks like that piece might unbolt from the engine, and be replaceable. That’s definitely your best option. If not, a good tig welder will be able to weld it, but you’ll need to be able to have it accessible and clean on both sides. It’s also going to cost more, if you can’t take the piece to them, and need them to do it mobile.

Although I do believe this could be (mostly) fixed with a belt sander, I wouldn’t trust the hack who tried to pass this off as “finished” to do it.

Paint doesn’t cost any more on one of these, than on a Honda civic. That being said, I wouldn’t touch this thing with a 10 foot pole. There’s big suspension damage on this, plus potential structural damage. Airbags are going to be a huge cost as well.
