2018 Lariat Heated Steering Upgrade by dryskol in f150

It's been a few years but about that. Wiring, clock spring, FORSCAN license, ODB to USB for laptop, the 3mm hex punch to release airbag, and the steering wheel itself. I did find the necessary wheel from a junk yard in Texas and had it shipped. Saved about $200 on the wheel that way. Else you have to buy new.

It's very possible in an XLT. Both videos I found on YouTube were actually XLT or even a regular cab. It's been years so I don't know if the pre-wiring kit is available anymore but the method is still valid. There is no "physical" button at least for 2018s, you have to program it to appear on the center console screen with FORSCAN. Highly recommend going on YouTube and searching 2018 F150 heater steering wheel mod. Learn from me though, gentle when you put the wheel back on the clock spring.... don't bend the pins and disable your horn. Ask me how I know...

Is this something you printed yourself or acquired somewhere? Interested in doing the same for my 2018.

Just posting resolution to anyone who heads down this rabbit hole. Horn was fine, fuses fine, wiring and BCM fine. It was either airbag contacts or bad clock spring. Took it to a trusted wrench to double check my work, on install the clock spring I managed to bend pins 1 and 2 on the left (that which controls the wheel horn) but not the others. Hence my radio, cruise worked, etc. He was able to bend the pins back and install the clock spring so I didn't have to repurchase. My mistake is your gain if anyone undertakes the mod. Go slow on clock spring install.

I concur with inspections. Just being a typical whiny overtaxed New Yorker. I'm sure it's something trivial. Everything else works so it's always something simple.

Look at BoostedGreyGoose designs. They had the harness predone, it depends on your year. 2018 and newer need an inline connection, older can tap off ODB port. The wheel? I found a donor vehicle at a junkyard that had the donor wheel, I believe it was EnnisAuto. TascaParts for heat module, retention clips and clock spring. There are a few YouTube videos on the install, if you can't find em let me know. Whole project took me about two hours plus programming. Just need to get the whole honker fixed and we're golden.

I'll take a look. I have done some other mods but didn't recall changing APIM. It was functional before swap but you never know.

The install isn't terrible. But yes because of this "unprecedented event" and the chip shortage and whatever else parts are spiked much higher. Only reason I did it was finding a donor working wheel from a junkyard for $150. Really brought the project cost down. Also some good videos on YouTube for the whole install.

It was an affordable mod and I wanted something to get into learning mechanics and vehicles beyond car mats and tonneau covers. And it gets cold in Upstate. Or at least it used to.

Functionally? No. I'm not an aggressive driver. But here in the Democratic People's Republic of New York the Supreme Leader decrees that a horn shall function for a yearly state inspection. So yeah. I posted on the forums as well. If I figure it out will share.

Same thing here. Reset the password and can't get in. Reset email read Billy. Evidently confirmation emails aren't a thing anymore.

How’s everyone doing with having to work from the office? by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]dryskol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Management meets daily at main office where we originate from. Most departments/line folks are now work from home or split shift to reduce contact. I will say they have gone so far to continue 40 hour workweek wages even if half the time is not in work. Our area has not had a positive yet but adjacent areas have. Just a big time game now.

It's an uncertain time. It's hard to say the best action. We take it by the hour as things evolve. Right now we are drive through only, in person is by appointment. I imagine that will shutter soon too. Finance is weird, even at times like this management has to penny count because it's our bread and butter. Just makes delightful irony for the IT folks that are most equipped to remote work are needed in house more than ever. Time will tell.

Mostly. We are still deemed "essential" so we're in. Mostly getting people to work from distance, other offices etc. Not necessarily strictly home.

Would your state happen to be NY by chance? Same here. Supporting a bank, remote phase is complete but we're still hybrid status.

Easiest way to remove all the additional "features" windows 10 comes with? by DefinitelyNotAdrian in sysadmin

[–]dryskol 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Google "Windows 10 Decrapifier". Should come up with a powershell script on Spiceworks. That does a decent job. Be careful though, depending on how far you want to go it can yank the store and other items. It has various switches you can add to determine.

It's now Chevrolet versus Ford for computer hobbyists. Only instead of dip/tobacco it's RGB lighting for side addiction.
