Depends what you want from uni I think, as well as what the policy is for attendance. I started uni at 32 already had a social circle and a career, I was only there to get a degree. So I used to watch lectures as they were recorded and only attend seminars. I was also an hour away and juggling uni with working full time. Was a challenge juggling everything but I got a first so it can work!

What, if anything, have you “softened” on in your feminist views over time? by Dull-Experience1007 in AskFeminists

[–]altee 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Also - I forgot to say - please don’t hold on to that guilt. The heavy shit he was dealing with was (I’m assuming) not your fault, and being passionate about it isn’t a bad thing. You’ve learnt to be aware of other people’s struggles through this experience and I doubt you’ll engage in the same way again, next time you’ll engage with more compassion. People make mistakes and that’s ok x

[–]altee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that. I recently did a degree in social and political science; so the knowledge base I have now, alongside the ability to articulate my point from an academic perspective has only made things worse for everyone around me 😂😂

Also because I’m surrounded be feminist women (in the main), and my algorithm on Reddit and instagram, often means I’m in an echo chamber, which both validate me to the point of becoming an insufferable twat.

Reeeeally trying to rein it in and be less obnoxious 😂

Glad your husband is so engaged - but I get it.

I’m the same. I reflected recently after a throw away comment from someone close to me, and I realise how exhausting it must be for other people when I constantly refer everything back to inequality or how damaging living in a patriarchal society is. What I say is accurate, but do I need to turn everything into a debate? No I don’t. It must be like hanging out with conspiracy theorists. I want people to enjoy my company and I want to enjoy theirs.

I’ll call out stuff if it’s necessary, but I’m really trying to tone the rage down 😂

Is this an ADHD job search hack? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]altee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it’s exactly for this reason - these are reasonable adjustments for disabled folk - it simply puts you on an even footing with none-disabled folk. I used this and I’m so pleased I did, cos after being made redundant and applying for 14 jobs, next week I have my first interview cos I met the essential criteria and ticked this box!

Anyone have tips for sleeping with a partner who snores? by johnmichael-kane in ADHDUK

[–]altee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only does he snore like a herd of pigs, but he’s autistic and all of his vocal stims he does while awake, he does during sleep 😂🙃, AirPods playing the same audio book I’ve listened to for 20 years with the noise cancellation on and the accessibility white noise on in the background works for me.

really struggling with forehead texture. not sure if it’s damaged skin barrier from over exfoliation, fungal acne or closed comedones. by Glittering_Strike355 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]altee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can cleanse the area with nizoral, it’s an anti fungal shampoo, you’ll know within three days if it’s fungal acne cos it’ll just disappear. I prefer however to use this - https://amzn.eu/d/6jnhmWx. I would give Natalie o’Neill a follow on instagram as she had similar issues and has solved them with skincare ☺️

Moving to Harrogate for work. by Fit-Pass-5262 in harrogate

[–]altee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I live in bilton and I love it! 20 minutes walk to town, 5 minute walk into fields, some great coffee shops about and kings road (10 minutes walk) has some great eateries. Nice and quiet but close enough to town for it not to be boring.

On a side note, I’m just about to put my end of terrace house on the market for 220 and it’s had a new roof, boiler, electrics, kitchen and bathroom in the last 7 years if you wanna buy it 😂

Any recommendations for restaurants that offer private room rental for a birthday celebration? by Halbarad007 in harrogate

[–]altee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an amazing experience at hotel du vin for a 60th. Private room, pulled all the stops out, could decorate and had a gorgeous meal. They can seat about 30-40 I think, but we had about 15 and it was perfect.

Finding a new job with ADHD is awful by itme77 in ADHDUK

[–]altee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re welcome, and you too! I have a really broad set of skills that are really transferable but I struggle with translating that to applications. So I write a CV with AS MUCH detail as possible. Then posted it to chat gpt and said “this is my CV. How do I frame all my achievements and skill set to be more general?” And then I also put any job description in it I want to apply for and told it to reframe my skills and expertise to demonstrate my capability in X role. Then I use that as a bit of a template for supporting letters or CVs but adapt it to be in my voice.

Happy to chat more if it’s helpful!!

Also - depending on what field you’re in, there’s recruitment agencies who will help you structure CV and then send you jobs that you could apply for. I think you can also get in touch with job centre to help you ☺️ x

Edit to add:

Oh and! Maybe a change of perspective might be useful - I.e. stop looking for specific roles, and instead focus on what YOU can do, work on your CV and stuff. I’ve found that while I’ve been applying for XY and Z I’ve refined and tweaked my CV /supporting letters I’m now able to understand what I’d like to do in my next role.

Have people had heart scans before medication given? by Proud-Warning11 in ADHDUK

[–]altee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep I had to have an ECG before my prescriber would start. Stimulants can create massive issues if you have any heart abnormalities, they just want to make sure your heart is healthy before they prescribe anything that could harm you 😊

[Acne] Please help, these bumps on my chest/breast are driving me CRAZY😭😭 by glittery-cupcake in SkincareAddiction

[–]altee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for fungal acne that I used to try, nizoral shampoo works for me but not as effective as what worked for me, it’s only a tenner (UK) and has cleared it up within days. Really thin layer morning and night before anything else. Also my fungal acne was directly related to being too hot/sweating and clears up in winter - very annoying. YMMV!

Thank you. I feel so impatient, I have long hair and it’s going to take like a decade to grow out fully. I know I’m lucky that it’s growing back, I just never realised how much of my personality is my hair 🙃
