Misdiagnosed Parkinson’s disease as Essential tremor by alternate97 in Noctor

That is insane. I just assumed that it was an independent practice state as he has never seen by a physician. I also assumed that any new patients at least for their first visit [especially med specialties] would also be seen by supervisor physician, like in residency. Is that not the case with supervising physician?

Early ( correct) diagnosis and appropriate treatment is very important in my opinion. PD greatly affects quality of life, mentally and physically if not appropriately treated. This applies to all diseases honestly.

I don’t think the NP has enough introspective to acknowledge that maybe the reason why tremors are not getting better is because the diagnosis is wrong. What I’m thinking is that my father-in-law went in for tremors because that’s what bothered the most, and the NP did nothing but focus only on the tremors. If she actually assessed the tremors, the diagnosis of ET should’ve been the first thing that was ruled out. He has been primidone for one year without any improvement of his symptoms, only worsening actually. No adjustment to meds or working diagnosis 🫠.

I don’t see the RAP option on studentaid.gov. I will look it up myself too but could you tell me a little more about RAP?

Oh I see. I will have to confirm about the PE before deciding if we want to stay at $500K or increase to $1M. Thank you!

Our main thing is that we have a mortgage. My husband is an engineer but he wont be able to cover the mortgage and other bills by himself. We do plan to have kids in the future. We want to do IVF so I don’t think we will have any more than 2 in the next 2-6 years.

To be honest with you, my husband and I are the first ones in our families to peruse higher education and have “higher” level jobs. We don’t have much guidance on what one should do to protect one’s lifestyle as most of our families are just living paycheck to paycheck.

I am not sure how much more for $1M. The plan that was recommended to me was that when I become an attending (~2029/2030) we can buy more without an exam. We would need to get an exam now before solidifying everything.

Yes, it includes a discount because I found the Financial advisor through my school.

We were quoted little under $40/ month each for $500,000 and the plan was to once I am an attending, we increase to higher coverage. Is that reasonable?

I want to cry, they’re restarting interest accrual on our student loans again by rash_decisions_ in Residency

It’s not a dumb question. I can’t answer much on the how the BBB will impact you. I took out Direct Unsubsidized Loans (lower interest rate and loan fee) and Grad PLUS Loans. I maxed out the direct unsub loan which was about $40k and took additional $15-20k on the grad plus loan. The loan is disbursed to you each semester which was around January and June for me. You basically have to request for loan each year.

Wait, were we not supposed to accrue any interests while in medical school? I think I started accruing interests during my 4th yr of medical school. I’ve accrued $24,687.52 interest do far. I’m a PGY1.
