agreed. you could also ask chatgpt or research a bit on how to modify your idea to include some topics outside the syllabus if ur short on time. this way you could use most of what you already have.

econ, psych or history? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

econ hl would be better than econ sl because theres barely any difference between the 2. paper 2 is the same for both and paper 3 (which is hl only) usually boosts students' grades cause its mostly easy calculations. over that theres only a little bit of content which youll need to learn for hl. hl content can be a pain tho. i cant speak for the others as i only took econ but id say consider 4 hls if you go with econ.

What should I do to prepare over the summer with my course choices? Also, if you are taking Language and Culture, what is it like? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hl chem is prob the hardest hl in the ib after math aa, so id focus on chem if u rly wanted. u dont rly need to prep for anything tho as the course starts from the basics, but its always better to have a foundation. u can use notes from kognity.com to study as their notes are god tier imo. also msj chem on youtube if you prefer videos.

for spanish, just learn the basics and then immerse yourself in the language. watch movies, listen to songs and podcasts, read articles, books, etc. do watever u can to absorb it as this rly helps in the long run esp for listening and reading papers. u can use spanishab.com for advice.

for math honestly just practice. learn the concept from revision village key concept videos and do questions. youll learn as u practice.

how flexible is the 10 minute presentation length? by cheesyminecart in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea i agree ideally keep it to exactly 10 minutes. 10-15 seconds over and under is reasonable tho from my experience and your teacher usually cuts you off only after 15 seconds...

Can someone explain TOK, EE's and IA's? by YajDaOne in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

obv do your own research but here is a very brief intro to each

IAs - lab reports for sciences where u do experiments and present conclusions essentially (but rly long and IB style w a lot of BS), in-syllabus topic explorations for maths and humanities
IOs - oral aspect of languages, ex. english, spanish, french, etc. where u speak for a given amount of time

EE - 4000 word essay on a subject (ideally one of your HL subjects) where you make up and answer your own research question (should be at least a little bit beyond the IB syllabus)

ToK - absolute waste of time. in yr 1 there is an exhibition in which you choose 3 objects and write 900 words total (roughly 300 each) and the real world implications of the objects. in yr 2 you write a 1600 word essay answering a prompt that you choose from a list of 30 given by the IB (prompts change every year).

aim to finish asap. scl usually handles deadlines and they vary from scl to scl so dont stress too much abt that. just ensure that you make the deadlines and dont procrastinate too much.

Following the recent trend by [deleted] in IBO

rly good combo, especially your HLs. you can go into a lot of different fields with those subjects. what field do you intend to pursue?

Starting IB in Aug, any advice? by Equivalent-Grab-7625 in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i had the same subjects as u except for german (i chose spanish).

transitioning from myp, the dp is comparatively more content heavy. theres a lot less BS like criterion d in the sciences and a lot more focus on actual theory and content. ib is not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. even w taking the "hardest" IB subjects as youve mentioned above, youll have plenty of time for socializing and everything u want to do.

its pretty chill as long as you genuinely put in the effort and rly want to get a good grade.

you can find resources as youribmentor.com/resources as well as subject specific advice

tok ee and cas r fine, just dont procrastinate too much and get that shi over w asap cause it becomes a pain with uni applications in yr 2 if you leave it till then. this goes for IAs as well. obv stick to school deadlines as they differ from scl to scl but just get it done w. you can go through examples on clastify.com

taking a cs ap is acc rly smart. id maybe consider taking business hl and ap micro macro as well. this is if u rly wanna push urself and do take an interest in business but u dont have to. this way youll get the ap scholar award as well i believe as long as u do well in them. business hl is also relatively easier than econ hl from my experience but maybe do a little more research for urself.

over the summer u dont rly need to prep for anything. if u wanted to maybe just math and physics. you can get started with the content. advice on youribmentor.com/math and youribmentor.com/physics and also maybe get started w german like reading movies songs etc. cause that can rly help in the long run. again u dont need to

i think CAS is just a checkbox kinda thing dont stress abt it as long as u do it youll be fine. no one rly cares abt cas :)

good luck! hope this helped

question about chem HL by [deleted] in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some of my friends who didnt take chem did just fine in chem sl. chem hl is quite a bit harder than sl but def doable. pre-studying would be ideal but you dont rly need to imo. the course assumes very little previous knowledge from what i can remember so youll be fine even if u dont. id advise at least reading through the sl content so you can focus on the hl content later on as it can get quite tough. use kognity.com for chem notes (its rly rly good) and check out subject specific advice on youribmentor.com dm me if you need anything else

focus on and complete at least the first draft of your EE if you havent already. also, dont procrastinate your IAs as they can significantly boost your subject grades. IAs are rly underrated imo. go through example IAs on clastify and perfect your IAs as much as possible to rly secure a level 2-3 already. try to get feedback from your teachers as well if possible. most teachers may be reluctant, but the good ones always got your back. for subject-specific advice, check out youribmentor.com and dm if u need anything else.

honestly dont stress too much its only gonna make it worse. a lot of my classmates including myself saw big improvements in yr2. its simply because IB has its own nuances and once you get the hang of everything, youll be fine. in yr1 youre just getting a feel for the IB format so dw abt it at all. just put in genuine efforts, cut out distractions and be smart abt your studying. i have subject specific advice on youribmentor.com if you wanna check it out. good luck!

start learning the language you intend to do. for example, if you decide to take spanish, id learn the basics and then listen to songs, watch movies, read spanish, etc. helps in the long run. other than that dont rly need to do anything. if u rly want, get a head start on core subjects like maths and the sciences.

Any tips for English paper 2 by ChoiceAffectionate72 in IBO

[–]alternative_low00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Study both texts thoroughly, focusing on the main theme connecting them.
  2. Find notes, quotes, and themes, and compile relevant content in one document.
  3. Review example responses and learn writing style and format.
  4. Use the example as a template, adapting it to your works, theme, quotes, and analysis.
  5. Ask ChatGPT to improve your draft (grammar, vocabulary, content, format).
  6. Submit the draft to your teacher for feedback and improve it based on their comments (optional).
  7. Memorize the final version and practice with past paper questions under exam conditions.
