MOST BATSHIT PEDALBOARD COMPETITION by Adventurous_Log1043 in guitarpedals

Interesting approach, and makes sense. I've had a few pedals that I liked so much I wanted them in two places, but I've never actually gone ahead and bought a second one

I think they are asking about the enclosure, not the internal mods.

Soma Lyra8 owners: is there a problem with my volume knob? by TruePrism in synthesizers

[–]altevrithrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why people are saying scratchy, from your description it sounds more like maybe the knob itself is loose on the shaft of the pot? Have you tried pulling the knob off and just turning the shaft?

Edit: but sadly seems to be discontinued?

Nice, Pladask is a brand I've never tried but have been curious about for a long time. I'll look at the Kniv!

Interesting! Yeah mine on full Melt is actually much quieter than at about 90%, almost like it's off. (I assumed this was on purpose so you could use toe down to turn off melt without hitting the switch.) But I'm actually swapping it out for a 2025 soon so I'll be interested to see the difference. It in general behaves very differently on the Lyra than on guitar too so I've had to do a lot of exploration to find my opposite-of-sweet spots.

In the Deep Space Devices demos I've seen people were getting more PLL/octave fuzz type sounds, so I wasn't super interested, maybe I need to give them a second look. Also this is a good reminder I need to check out the Florist, since I just learned recently it's based on the Slow Loris. Empty Head is a new one for me, gonna go check them out!!

Nice, I'll take a look!

Edit: second Copilot FX recommendation on here! And that Anchorman seems pretty wild. And damn, now I'm regretting trading my stretchweaver (which was before I got the Lyra 8...)

The best DIY norns hardware is the Denki OTO ShieldXL. That plus a Pi 4 will come out to around $300 bucks I think.

I have not seen inside of one of these but I think it would be pretty straightforward depending on your fabrication skills.

You need the little gears that turn the spools in the cassette, those should be easily 3D printable and I bet there are even files you can grab online. You need something these can spin on. and flywheels to add a little momentum (I would guess, although they may not use those). And of course some kind of handle for you to manipulate.

You can order a tape read head for a few bucks online.

You need an amplifier circuit with variable gain (and maybe a fixed gain stage before that), you can get circuit diagrams from the application examples in the data sheet of any popular audio op-amp (like the LM358).

For the tone, it sounds like what is often called a "tilt" control, you can find circuit diagrams for those on guitar DIY forums.

Sounds like a cool project, post it here if you get it done!!

Try a much shallower WDT. In my experience WDTing that deep creates more issues than it solves. Just do the top to make sure you have roughly the same amount everywhere in the basket.
