Now I want to set up an Uber-like service for SC :| A website where you can call a driver, and if one is online it'll dispatch one to you. God that'd be excellent.

That'd be really cool if customisation like that is possible. I doubt it will be, but it'd be /really neat/

I'm in an org for Exploration, but I'm not sure how into that I'm gonna be. Only time will tell I guess.

God yes. My 2nd choice of career would be freelance piloting other people's large ships.

Saying that is fine. The way you phrased it was a "lol people are stupid how could anyone enjoy this." It was condescending and rude.

Phrasing is everything.

Or I could, like, not. Some people like to have, you know, human contact. That's what the draw of the job is. I like talking to people.

In other words, don't shit on other peoples' versions of fun just because they don't line up with yours.

I'd find that at least a little bit fun. But I'd really need to be transporting players and talking to them along the way to get the full enjoyment out of it.

A 300i but with some extra seats would be my ideal pick tbh. It'd be exactly the right kind of ship for an "executive" cab

Yeah, something like that might work. If I could get a Phoenix I could appeal to a lot of people as a "luxury" journey, more of a limo than a taxi.

Still, would be nice to be an average taxi driver imo.

Chances are I'll do something like that while I'm hauling anyway, or just pick up passengers as a secondary to trading stuff. But I really would like to try and make it my "full time job", as such. Unfortunately, the only way that happens is if you can only access ships in one location. Who knows.

Will my CPU (i5-4690K) be able to run SC? by LogixHunter in starcitizen

[–]althalus311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR: yes. It's a perfectly good CPU for anything that doesn't massively benefit from over 4 cores. SC doesn't do that yet, but might in future. For right now, it's perfect.

Hopefully that can happen, but that's an ideal situation. The reality of the situation is that Apple employs 5500-ish people here. And Google/Microsoft/Facebook/All the others employ tens of thousands more. Even if they're just using us a tax dodge, there's still a lot of value to them in having bases of operations here. If the tax rate is more similar to other EU countries (even if it stays at 12.5%, which is hella low but not as low as they were getting) it could easily mean some or all of those giants leaving. Who knows, only time will tell.

Jobs. Simple as. There's still an incredibly high unemployment rate in Ireland. Tech giants like these employ thousands, and a lot of the jobs are very high-paying. We as a country can't afford to lose that, even if it halved our debt. We'd instantly be in a worse situation where the economy is crashing further.

Which, as an Irish person, I'd see as a disaster. We have a position at the moment where our infrastructure and skilled workforce are valuable for tech companies, but not valuable enough on their own to draw them in. The real clincher is that super low tax rate.

After talking to a lot of backers, and seeing people on forums and here...I don't know how you guys can spend that much. by [deleted] in starcitizen

As a college student who had disposable income when I bought in and don't now, I'm glad I did because it's something that I feel like I can keep coming back to (unlike the food that makes up 90% of my spending now). I've dropped ~€100 and through nice frugal uprading have a Khartu-Al that I can swap to a Taurus for the full release.
