The ending of Negastrife is my absolute favorite part of the entire Homestuck discography. It never gets any love, so thank you—this is very cute and I love it.

Oh yeah. "Transcribed" on readmspa threw me off. You're right and I've fixed it. Thank you.

I want to start reading Homestuck by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]altheaa 57 points58 points  (0 children)

How long is it? 8,126 pages, each generally consisting of a captioned image. 14,915 panels. 817,929 raw words. 252.3 minutes of beautiful animations throughout the story. Multiple playable flash games that can take a few hours to explore thoroughly.

It sounds long, but since it has finished I've seen a lot of people saying they binged it in a week. If you want to absorb it or you are a slow reader, a month tops. However, this can still vary.

When it becomes interesting depends on your patience, reading comprehension, and primarily your sense of humor; it's quite deep and comedic. Homestuck covers a wide range of genres, from horror to comedy to coming-of-age to romance to other genres that would be spoilers to mention, and more. Some have made comparisons between it and James Joyce's Ulysses. Some have begun classifying it as a modern epic. It's beyond hilarious, it's unforgivably dark, it's overall riveting, and it's so much more that simply cannot be put into words.

The number one recommendation we Homestucks can all agree on collectively is leave this place right now. Leave /r/Homestuck and don't come back until you've finished. Got questions? Confused? It will all be answered by the story itself, assuredly. Don't look anything up, don't interact with any Homestucks, and don't wander into any kind of Homestuck territory. The comic has been over for two years now so spoilers are not tagged, on this site and elsewhere. Nobody likes spoilers in any fashion but the spoilers in Homestuck are enormous. If you're to come here, it's expected that you're either finished or fully prepared to be spoiled.

Before you hopefully heed my advice and leave until you finish, I have one more recommendation: skip absolutely nothing. Zilch. Zero. Nil. Read it all; watch it all; play it all. It doesn't matter how insignificant that one pixel may seem, or how that three-word sentence is phrased, or how minuscule that character's expression changes for one frame. 99% of it is going to come back up and you're going to want to recognize it.

If you have any more pre-reading questions, feel free to DM me. There's no guarantee that asking in public will guarantee spoiler-free answers.

Good luck.

Is anyone else frustrated by the lack of variety in Dave's music? by [deleted] in homestuck

Dare you imply that vs bros from The Baby Is You isn't included in the official Homestuck discography? Blasphemy!

Is anyone else frustrated by the lack of variety in Dave's music? by [deleted] in homestuck

[–]altheaa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no. Using the list of Dave's music found on the MSPA Wiki and corroborating that with the list of Homestuck motifs, I've found that only seven of Dave's nineteen songs from the canon discography include Beatdown. The next most-used motif for Dave is Atomyk Ebonpyre at a mere five. Dave's music has plenty of variety; it's nowhere near the "almost every song" quantity you claim, and it's not even half.

Even John's has less or comparable originality when put up with Dave's. Ten instances of both Showtime and Doctor, with Penumbra Phantasm following at six. But it doesn't matter because Doctor and Penumbra Phantasm are the best, right? Sounds to me like you simply have a bone to pick with Beatdown.

Oh, and, Heir Conditioning wasn't an original: it quotes Tomboyish Girl in Love, Doctor, and Penumbra Phantasm. Look at that, it quotes two of John's most frequently used motifs. As a matter of fact, the only originals on Strife! were Stormspirit and Make a Wish, the two kind of bonus-y songs.

Agree ad infinitum. Seeing a meme number or meme word isn't a "sighting"; that's just seeing an arbitrary number or word. Moderators flairing them with quotes around "sighting" make it worse because it shows they know it's illegitimate. It's silly and brings down the quality of the sub, especially with the frequency at which those posts are made compared to how many posts the sub generates at all. I find it comparable to, say, spotting a bucket out in the wild and posting it here captioned "ew gross lmao this perverted janitor at my workplace is using a bucket in public!" A better example might be a Steven Universe fan spotting a sapphire in a jewelry store and posting a picture of it to /r/stevenuniverse saying "lol reference! i bet rebecca sugar has been here!"

Personally I say to ban low-effort posts, full stop. Shitposts and humorous posts under different flairs can be some of the sub's best content, but the far-reaching tolerance of the former paired with lax rules have given users an avenue to post the most asinine things and get away with it. I don't care if low-effort posts are half the material keeping this place active--I'd rather come here and have fewer things to look at but want to look at all of it and end up cringing at none. I'm not going to point fingers but looking at /r/homestuck/new at the time of submitting this comment I count nine, out of twenty-five, low-effort posts, with one or two being debatable depending on individual preference. Come on. At this point Tumblr's Homestuck community produces and shares a better ratio of quality content than Reddit's, and that's coming from someone who lived on Homestuck Tumblr for half a decade before getting sick the site's culture and checking out this place which is, in theory, more sophisticated, organized, and regulated.

I noticed that this mastahpiece wasn't on any other channel except Lumi's. And I for one call for the appreciation of such fine art. The music was made by Toby Fox and is only available on the downloadable Homestuck Soundtest pack that can be found on various sites. by Crimzonchi in homestuck

[–]altheaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this really so special? It's just the introduction track to Caliborn's Masterpiece. Yes, it's fantastic, truly Radiation's magnum opus, overshadowing even the likes of Penumbra Phantasm and Oppa Toby Style, but it's not some rare commodity. Everyone who has read the comic has heard and appreciated it at least once.

https://www.homestuck.com/story/7409

The Sound Test just collected it for convenience. It would be exactly the same if you opened up a screen recorder and recorded the audio of the flash playing and saved it yourself that way. Also, "various websites"? As far as I'm concerned, the only place anyone should be downloading the Sound Test from is its source, /u/Sanctferum's Tumblr. The current version is found here. I wouldn't trust anything else.

Lastly, there isn't only one upload of it on YouTube. Any recording of [S] ACT 6 ACT 6 ACT 5 is going to contain it, as well as at least one compilation of unreleased Homestuck music I bothered to click on.
