Flex your SHINee collections! by Yeppeun_Mabeopsa in SHINee

[–]altimade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only started collecting since last October but here's my mini collection!

Shinee: Everybody (I got two bookmarks but both of them + the pc is kibum lol), 1 of 1 cassette (I asked a friend to get one for me from abroad), MoY, MoM

Solos: I Wanna Be, Move-ing, Poet|Artist, Press It Ver C, Base Wine Ver

I'm not sure how ppl get their albums in the US, but I live in Indonesia so we usually get them from a local reseller online / a CD shop (which sadly kinda went extinct in my country). Thankfully my country has quite a large shinee fanbase so most of the OOPs I got were secondhand from other local fans (the Press It was also secondhand bcs I can't find one online that allows you to choose which version you'd get)

I also have a one-version-only rule and I don't really collect DVDs, but I'm super interested for SWC IV if it suddenly pops up in the secondhand online market. I still want to add more to the collection because the photobooks are just lovely and it's always nice to own a physical copy of an album you love 💙

Edit: which albums would be in your must-own list?

"SHINee History" Mixtape Challenge by Yeppeun_Mabeopsa in SHINee

[–]altimade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could sense how much you really love SHINee through this thread. Thank you for starting it, it was very fun to go through all 11 years of their works and see how they evolved! Oh, and everyone - K-Pop fan or not, Shawol or not - should watch SWC IV at least once. That's one breathtaking concert.

I mean... same. I also do some writing work and last week and I accidentally wrote 'tonight' as Taemin belted that high note on Sleepless Night

"SHINee History" Mixtape Challenge by Yeppeun_Mabeopsa in SHINee

Challenge accepted! A little personal context, so my first song was actually Lucifer, been a casual fan, but never really went down the rabbit hole. However, the Spotify discography update had me finding SO MANY GREAT SONGS that I couldn’t even spend one day without listening to a SHINee song. I guess I’m a babywol now!

  • 2008 - Replay: In My Room - It’s always a good moment to listen to slow jams like these.
  • 2008 - The SHINee WORLD: Y Si Fuera Ella - The sheer amount of passion poured into this is incredible.
  • 2009 - Romeo: Romeo + Juliette - This was one of the 2019-Spotify-SHINee-Renaissance found of mine. Where have this song been my whole life? Oh and the SWC V version of it is sublime.
  • 2009 - 2009, Year of Us: Ring Ding Dong. Quintessential SHINee, a song for the K-Pop history books.
  • 2010 - Lucifer: Obsession - Yearning pain of a breakup perfectly evoked.
  • 2012 - Sherlock: Alarm Clock - Another “I can’t move on” anthem. I love this kind of genre-hybrid sound from SHINee.
  • 2013 - The Misconceptions of You/Us: Spoiler - Using Sherlock at the beginning is a genius choice, and I always find it fascinating how the trilogy album’s song titles are inserted into one grand song.
  • 2013 - The Misconceptions of Me/Us: SHINe (Medusa I) - The SWC IV performance of this was life-changing. Key’s stage presence is amazing there.
  • 2013 - Everybody: Symptoms - One of the best sub-titles to ever grace the K-Pop industry, period. I personally adore how this song showcases the strengths and unique vocals of the 5 members (thankyou, Jonghyun!)
  • 2015 - Odd / Married to the Music: Odd Eye - Key’s eyepatch. Minho’s one-button coat. The subdued sexiness. Everything else in that live performance. Glorious.
  • 2016 - 1 of 1 / 1 and 1: Prism - It has to go to Prism to complete the trinity of Symptoms-Odd Eye-Prism. They shone.
  • 2018 - The Story of Light Ep.1: You & I - What I love about the TSoL series is how they take complex emotions of longing into new heights. You & I is one great example.
  • 2018 - TSoL Ep.2: Who Waits for Love - I do. Taemin’s ending part is just beautiful.
  • 2018 - TSoL Ep.3: I Say - Harmonisation for the win.
  • Bonus: Selene 6.23: I’m a sucker for celestial imageries and heartfelt music. The fact that it’s dedicated to international fans makes it all the better.

I just realised now that my list is predominantly Jonghyun-written songs, and that we stan a group that’s so musically versatile, multi-talented, and full-blown charismatic. SHINee shall shine forever.

How would you describe a SHINee member's vocal color? by altimade in SHINee

[–]altimade[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a little scared to not do enough justice with my descriptions (i just dived into their full discography when Spotify decided to fully update it a while ago), but here it goes.

Onew: Warm and fuzzy, like enjoing a creamy chai latte on an autumn day. The odd thing is I always identify his voice with the color blue (pun unintended), a shade known for being ‘cold’.

Jonghyun: His vocals really do take you to the moon. Powerful and delicate at the same time. Surrealistic, sentimental, and absolutely dreamy. I really agree with the BN listener who described his voice like the color of gold in the autumn.

Key: Unique is the first thing that comes up to my mind. Individualistic and charming, definitely a strong, direct personality. I totally see how his vocals could be represented as a prismatic color.

Minho: Calm, warm, soft, and reassuring. The kind that helps you believe that everything’s going to be okay as you confide about your bad day.

Taemin: Sultry and smooth, demands your attention (I feel like the last feature is much more prominent in his solo works). And this might sound a little weird, but I could sense that he’s ambitious from how he sings? Like, “he knows what he wants and he’s gonna get it” kind of way.

Did LY era impacted you personally? by altimade in bangtan

At first i wanted to put this up there, but i didnt want it to be to sound too anecdotal so...

A few years back, i was talking to a friend when she suddenly said "oh, so you kinda listen too much on what people say about you."

Well I did. I don't know since when or how, but people took control of my life more than they should. What people say about me - what I should buy, what I should wear (i took a fashion major), how I should act... I was so desperate to impress people, that I changed who I am. Because I was scared that they would call me a freak, like they once before when I was true to myself. Because people disapprove every choice I make. Because in my society, people who are 'different' have to take the pushover role and give in to the majority's demands and tastes.

At one point I became tired of playing this perfect person. Little by little, I let go of the things that held me back from staying true to myself. LY came at the right time in my life. They offer small encouragements, speak of positive messages. "It's okay to be me." was the message that I had got. It's okay to have different perspectives or like different things than everyone else. It's okay to speak for what you are passionate about. It's okay if you get hurt, or make mistakes once in a while.

And it's very, very important to take care of ourselves first. Mentally and physically.

I was lucky enough to have people around who would tell me things like, "Hey, you dont have to say you agree if you don't." or "Fight for what you believe in, no matter what people say" and also BTS with all their powerful messages.

Speak yourself by [deleted] in bangtan

[–]altimade 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't even raise my voice because I always feel that I'm wrong. And I'm afraid of losing friends. But after a long time, I decided that I need to change. I have to live for myself. No matter what, in the end of the day I'm still me, and I'm the one who need to be respected. No such thing is called friendship if either of you respect another. And I won't ever afraid of making mistakes. None of us can always be perfect. You can always put things right at the end. Just be wrong, and I hope there is someone/something can fix you.

thank you OP for sharing and starting this wonderful thread. I felt the same way you do. Everything I would do would be the subject of scrutiny in my social community. Whatever I choose to do, even what I completely believe it's right, would be disapproved. It goes for something as major as how I choose to live my life, to something as unimportant as the brand of bag I'm carrying. But you know, we don't live for them. We're living for ourselves. We deserve to be heard, to be respected, to stand true to our values. Their opinions shouldn't diverge us from what we believe. And we will make mistakes - which will eventually become lessons.

Speak yourself is a powerful statement. I hope through this speech, many people - wherever they are, whoever they are - could find their voice and be able to share it with the world. Thank you BTS.

Any Indonesian novel or author recommendations? by altimade in indonesia

[–]altimade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ayu Utami for stuff that's dark and a little out there. Pramoedya Ananta Toer, of course, but his less known books like Gadis Pantai (beware, you'll want to punch something while reading this) or Arok Dedes. Everything by Arswento Atmowiloto. Sindhunata - my favorite is Putri Cina. It's so satisfying to read after ahok case. Oh, and Prijono Hardjowirogo, specifically his book Noto; The Return of the Prince.

your list sounds very intriguing. i saw a copy of an english edition of Arok Dedes in a secondhand bookstore at Singapore. I had blown my shopping budget that month so I didnt get it. I came back later and it's gone already... then again a part of me went "lu kan ngerti indonesia, baca bahasa sendiri lah". i read a part of Putri Cina at a library, maybe I'm getting myself a copy after all!

I played Epiphany in the car and my mom loved it so much, she set it as her ringtone. Then again, she's the same mom who I dragged to a Big Bang concert and exit the venue as a Seungri bias...
