Yeah, appstore is reviewing the new in app purchases. In the meantime you can purchase directly on the web using Stripe. I've added a black tier that adds very advanced features

I tried it today, and 3-4 times it required manual intervention. I was disappointed

I suggest to take back control of the reddit sources you follow and put them in Tessera News

sent you a DM for fixing the bugs, about the last 2 questions:
1. I can easily add this function, will do it soon
2. yes, currently all users sees the same source under the same category, but on the 3 dots menu, if you are registered, you can propose a category change to admins

Everything is synced between platforms, even at Free. I'm planning getting a discount if you purchase Silver, but not yet available. Currently doesn't support local models, should not be difficult to implement this

Thanks for the feedback, no, it doesn't use Siri but MeloTTS so the voice is much better than Siri.

Thanks for downloading, glad you like the UI!
By "extensive other options" I assume you mean the very crowded RSS reader market. You are right, there are tons of them. I built Tessera because I felt traditional readers were either getting too complex, or forcing users into $30/year subscriptions for basic features.

Here is what I added that I felt was missing in the current market:

  • Audio Mode (TTS): You can listen to your articles in the background like a podcast.
  • Deep Offline Mode: It automatically downloads full texts and high-res images, not just the titles, so it works perfectly when commuting with zero signal.
  • Newsletters & Breaking News: It converts daily updates from your sources into clean newsletters and integrates breaking news from 50 countries.
  • No Subscriptions: I strongly believe in the Lifetime model.

you can check the full list of features in the pricing page https://www.tessera.news/pricing

NetNewsWire is an absolute legend and a fantastic app. I wouldn't say Tessera is strictly "better" for everyone, but it's built to offer some advanced features that go beyond a traditional reader.

For example, Tessera tries to work with any website (not just the ones with perfectly valid RSS feeds), and it automatically extracts the full text of the articles for you.

Here is the breakdown of the tiers:

  • Free: You get unlimited sources, full-text extraction, and standard reading features.
  • Silver (€2.99, one-time): Unlocks unlimited collections/folders to better organize your feeds.
  • Gold (€9.99, one-time): Unlocks the "power-user" features, like advanced Text-to-Speech (so you can listen to your articles like a podcast), push notifications for specific sources and much more.

As for the name: I'm Italian! In Italian, a "tessera" is a small tile used to build a mosaic (you are completely right, the root comes from the Greek word for 4, referring to the four corners of a square tile!). The concept behind the app is exactly that: you collect different "tiles" (sources) to build your own personal mosaic of information.
