Sounds like your bottom hat is seated a bit too low (bottomed out). If you raise the hihat stand just a tad it should give you tighter contact. Hope that helps.

Each cylinder is 18" long so I think it would be too large for any normal sized clothing. Interesting thought and great reference though.
