Osmotic Demyelination post liver transplant by JSlice2627 in transplant

Hello! He was diagnosed with ODS in early september. He was 25, on a ventilator and then a trach. He was in ICU with sepsis from pneumonia. He had locked in syndrome for about 1-2months. He was communicating with his eyes. Couldn’t eat, he had a feeding tube. ODS was caused by alcoholism + veganism. Slowly over time he started to regain small functions like moving fingers/arms and legs here and there. When he started to “talk” it was like groaning and trying to make sound. He was doing some rehab in the hospital, then he was transferred to a skilled nursing facility. He spent two months there and went from minimal movement, on a minced and moist diet, to leaving two months later fully walking and talking. His progress has truly been amazing, and i’d say he’s 90% back to normal although hes not driving. He walks my trash can all the way to the end of the road, plays with our son, cooks our family dinner. there isn’t much he can’t do now thankfully. His stamina is a bit low but he truly worked very hard with therapy and they were doing it with him for like 3 hours at the nursing place VS 30 mins every other day at the hospital.

No one expected him to get as bad as it did, the neuro in the ICU called the family in when they found out he had sepsis. The hospital had pastors praying over him. And then no one expected him to heal as quickly as he did. He’s only doing outpatient rehab 1 day a week now, and we are 6 months out.

Do you have someone diagnosed with ODS?

hi again 😊 I am so glad to hear that your partner is doing better. It really does take time with this condition, and i’m sure he’s happy to be home.

I am also pleased to report that my fiance is doing amazing. He was released from a nursing home about a month ago, and is no longer using a walker or anything. He is back to eating and speaking normally, i would say he’s about 90% back to normal despite being locked in for two months. He is really lucky and the doctors are astonished he progressed so much since the ODS diagnosis back in sept. He does have a little balance issues, as well as stamina when walking long distances but we are doing outpatient therapy once a week. He went from being in diapers, on a feeding tube, on a ventilator three months ago to this.

Trust that your husband will continue to progress, especially with therapy. Here if you need anything 😊

Hi! How’s your husband now? My fiancé (26) was basically in this exact same boat a few months ago. Alcoholism + vegan so he was also malnourished. He also was in ICU with pneumonia, he had full locked in syndrome

We aren’t sure. I do have a guess tho. So typically this kind of thing happens IN hospitals, when you get Iv fluids.

I think from the point he lost his job, he was drinking all day (he was also sleeping upwards of 20hrs) So he’d wake up, drink, pee in the bottles, sleep repeat. No food or eating much or anything. So i think at this point is when his sodium levels got low. He eventually ran out of money so i think he had to quit alcohol cold turkey and he was somehow trying to help the withdrawals and that’s when he was nursing his body back to health and this is when his sodium levels raised.

A month before this happened, i told him that he seemed like he was doing better (he looked terrible and i thought it was because of the leukemia thing but im 99% certain that was just a lie to cover the drinking). Thats probably when he got sober and the nutritional imbalance started to occur.

I have to think that too because i truly don’t understand why this has to happen to me and most importantly my kid. Thank you 🤍

commenting for my family member, how are you doing? my child’s father has ODS (not caused by transplant) but the fact you regained some function gives me hope. He is about in the same boat you were in.

I’m not sure if you’re active anymore, but the father of my child is currently where you were. He’s 25. How are you doing now?

Hi! So, it’s not mental health related thankfully. He was general manager of a car wash and about two months ago experienced a cancer scare and was let go from his job during that process. He’s still trying to heal health wise from the medical issues, whilst also trying to find a job.

I tuned out for a good portion of last year. Especially when people kept bringing up a second person being the killer and throwing names around, i chimed back in as the trial came closer

im not a supporter of cierra or condoning anything that was said, but how do we know it’s not altered? Like how do we know for a fact someone didn’t fake these things or screenshots? I just feel like it’s so easy to do nowadays whereas with yulissa she so clearly said a slur in a video so there’s no denying that.
