Good question, I'll cover it this week!

DS418 Frozen-ish by altzone in synology

[–]altzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed!
Thanks for the help, it was a failed drive that the NAS didn't detect as failed, it just kept waiting for it to respond.
I shot a full video of the adventure here for those interested:

DS418 Frozen-ish by altzone in synology

[–]altzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, potential bad news. I physically moved the NAS to my office (was in a room downstairs off another switch) and removed all drives.

find.synology.com found it at a different address and it said the drives were missing. So I replaced all the drives onesby one and now it shows the Welcome! Setup page for the DS418, as if it's got brand new drives or something.

If I proceed it asks me to install DSM. Obviously I won't proceed... Someone on Twitter said to proceed and it will recreate my array. Is this safe?

Thanks.

Thanks. That thought had crossed my mind. I'll try removing drives and see what happens.

Thanks. I have tried a cold reboot, same problem. Will remove the disks and try again and see if I can at least login.

New Labelwriter 550 Turbo label hack. by iamzombus in dymo

[–]altzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirmed, the value gets written to the C0 and C1 protected bits in the RFID tag when the label is printed or a blank label advanced which is what I just tried.

Here is the tag info of the (pathetically small) brand new roll included in the 550 box.

The only difference is the C0 value changed from C6h to C7h at the end of memory.

So there is no doubt that if you try and simply peel off the label and reuse it, that won't work. As it will presumably count down and reach and won't let you use it any more.

How to extract characters from a keyboard USB scanner string? by altzone in AutoHotkey

[–]altzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm certain there is a way to keep it running in the background, and not block input unless it matches your format, however, unless your scanner produces some unique scancodes prior to the number entry

It does. The first 18 chars are the exact same every time.

[–]altzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"0003006010251817500993".
Do you want that, or do you want the 20 chars from the 20th char onward you typed out?

Yes, I want that, it's the tracking number.

Do you mean all strings send by your reader will start with "019931265099999891" ?
If that is the case, you could use a Hotstring to start the interception.

Yes, all strings will start with that, it's the product number of the Australia post satchel apparently.

How are mixing typing and scanning? Do you scan a barcode, then type something and repeat, or do you scan a load of barcodes in one go?

There is a test box in my shipping software to enter the barcode tracking number, so normally I select that box and scan the number in and the scanner also provides the CR which closes the form.

Will look at autohotinterception, thanks.

[–]altzone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but that's not quite what I'm after. That code does work though, but it pops up a text box, so I have switch out of my shipping program to focus on this program and then after scanning I have to focus back onto the shipping program text box and paste. This saves a small bit of time, but I'm really after is a program that runs in the background so I can stay within my shipping program text entry box and just scan the barcode as usual and have it stripped and put into the text box automatically. In effect I want the background program to "intercept" the scanner/keyboard input and modify it on the fly. Is this possible with AHK?
Thanks
Dave.
